Was anyone's apparel or hair style influenced by the music you were listening to back in the 80s and 90s?
Ya, there was a time I wore buttoned up to the top flannels like Kid Frost and Eazy-e with Dickies pants or beyond baggy jeans from Millers Outpost, and eventually tried growing out my hair like Kurt Cobain.
Millers Outpost. My favorite clothing store in the 80s.
There was nothing better. Once they became Anchor Blue, it was over for me. _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi.
I feel like 80s/90s music are so different though (irrespective of genre differences).
Totally different.
I had two older brothers, I was the youngest, born in 1982. Bros were born in 76 and 79.
I grew up hearing what they listened to. My oldest bro was most into the 80's music. My middle bro liked a lot of the 80's content too, but became more hardcore during the grunge/alternative stage of the early 90's.
For me, I just continued appreciating both eras, but truly grew to appreciate and love music as a young teen in the 90's.
By that point, I began realizing that I truly enjoyed a lot of the stuff my bro would listen to back in the day. We had music and video tapes of movies and music. Other then playing outside, that was the extent of our technological little lives.
Thing is, that was the case for many kids for decades prior. They had TV and music....and of course, the corded or Zack Morris brick cordless to talk to friends with.
Calling little Jimmy? Little Jimmy not home? Oh well! Either ride your bike to locate Jimmy, or call someone else!
Just simpler times, both decades.
For me, the latter end of the 90's introduced mainstream internet to families and households, in the form of 56k, with AOL, AIM, Netflix browser, and some random websites.
It was still a form of communication via the web, so that was pretty cool. But I will never forget watching my oldest brother during that time...no longer interested in his 1991 green Ford Escort GT with an Alpire Stereo and bass speakers in the trunk.
He was now glued to the damn computer! Chatting away with girls, rather then cruising around bumping Diamond Girl around Hollywood and Vine.
It's remarkable to have lived through that evolution. Because it was a gradual shift. Certainly, technology has become a staple in most people's lives, but how we got here is fascinating, and I believe there will be another technology boom at some point where that shift pushes us further beyond current possibilities.
Everything changes, and every generation gets to that point where they say, "in my day!". I just happen to be currently getting to that point _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi.
