Is there any chance this trade still goes through? Couldn't the Grizzlies just be cut out? Ariza for Rivers and Oubre?

Sarver allowed his GM to make the #1 pick, hire a new head coach, give $15 million for one year for Ariza....and fired him right after. Now he's threatening to leave Phoenix unless the city pays for renovation of the arena they play in despite they're being among the tree worst teams in the league for years.

Last thing: another source says this reached ownership, with Sarver and Grizz owner Robert Pera talking w/each other. And the name they discussed was Dillon. So: no guarantees, of course, but the smart money is on this deal getting resurrected in some form, quickly.

It’ll probably end up getting done. Last thing this team needs is getting involved in trade rumors. I say just roll with this team until we get close to the deadline and then decide what needs to be done. We don’t need malcontents on this team due to rumors and kill any kind of chemistry.

I think this happened with us last year. Lakers tried to sneak the other Ingram in trades.

Oh well. Let’s not trade anyone just for the sake of making a trade now. It’s not like the deadline is tonight.

Agreed. If we're not improving the team, no point trading

Several other teams were already pushing the Suns to get back involved in a deal for Ariza, including the Lakers and Houston Rockets, league sources said

Quote:
Ariza and his agent, Aaron Mintz of CAA, had hoped that the Lakers could complete a deal with the Suns, but that became more difficult to navigate in recent days, league sources said. Phoenix owner Robert Sarver became more sensitive about doing a deal with the Lakers in wake of the criticism that came with allowing center Tyson Chandler to get a contract buyout to join the Lakers last month, sources said. The Lakers had been eager to make a deal for Ariza.

What Chandler backlash? Dude was barely playing in PHX, you waived him and he can sign anywhere. Who is even remotely mad at the Lakers getting Chandler? What do Suns fans have to be upset over?

Also, this incompetent fool in PHX is not only burning any sort of bridge with the current roster but anyone else even on the team's radar under his ownership.

You think a free agent seeing a owner refuse to do good by a veteran and then be this stupid to let a deal fall through is going to jump at the chance of becoming a Sun?

Not really related to Ariza, but interesting nonetheless since it involves Robert Sarver, the Suns owner. They could have had Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, if it weren't for Sarver, who then fired his GM for not having a quality PG on the roster.

Quote:
It’s worth noting that the Suns wouldn’t be in this fix if Robert Sarver, the club’s managing partner, had not reportedly overruled his then-general manager, Ryan McDonough, on draft night.

McDonough reportedly planned to package the club’s pick from Milwaukee and a player taken with the 16th pick to move up and draft Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a point guard from Kentucky.

When Philadelphia offered the rights to Mikal Bridges for the rights to Zhaire Smith and Miami’s unprotected 2021 first-round pick, Sarver pushed for that deal. So the Suns moved up six spots to add their fourth young wing player.

Not enough speculation about a potential Ariza trade.
