Lonzo, Bron and Kuz all brought it. Hart was very poor again as was Lance and Svi. We are really missing BI, Rondo and Javale...Lance and Svi getting minutes really just kills what we are trying to do our there.

Without a rim protector at least the level of Javale our whole D falls apart, Anybody who squares up in front of Hart or Kuz just gets right by them.

We have a serious roster construction issue when a journeyman Center is the lynchpin of our defense. Add into that the problems Kuz, Hart and KCP have in connecting from deep on numerous attempts....we simply can’t win like this. Looking forward to having some guys back.

WE miss Javale big time. He is our best center, despite many thinking Chandler is. Chandler is a great second option but does not do what Javale does for us.

Without Javale, we don't make the playoffs.

Good energy levels, poor application of said energy.

We collectively sucked on D.
Kuzma the torchbearer on that front. Not so much because he was the worst...but because he was shown to be the bad more often.

Poor 3 point shooting outside Zo and Lance....lol, this statement exemplifies how bad we are away from the rim.
Kuz' 3 pointer is threatening extinction! I think he's rather lax when he's taking that shot or too much the opposite. Either way that's 5/22 this road trip - not good.

Won't even get into FTs

I didn't see the first half, but watched the second half after I got home late tonight. I thought Hart's perimeter D was atrocious, and that is on top of the fact that he is in a deep shooting slump.

Javale is the most important player on the Lakers right now.

Lonzo had a strong game. Free throw shooting is a major problem. Hart is slumping. Wagner has promise. I do not like Lance’s Game. The D sucked, whew, big time.

Javale’s absence was clearly felt since the Nets had no fear of driving to the basket

Since the opposition have had the opportunity to scout him and taking away many of his pet moves, it’s time for Kuz to adjust. Kuz is getting better on D and hopefully soon he will consistently at least an average defender

Svi is getting his NBA’s legs together that he I’ll hopefully result in making him a legitimate 3pt threat

Same with Mo

When Stu’s comments on Hart is basically that he will always work hard tells how effective he was on the court.

My stab at a recap:

Negatives:
Interior defense (Yes, small ball killed us, but we could do MUCH better)
Pick n roll defense
Poor communication on switches
Weak closeouts
FREE THROW SHOOTING
Dribble penetration by Jared freaking Dudley
Hart and KCP bricking wide open 3's

Positives:
Kuzma scored (3 ball was inconsistent
Lonzo scored (not just 3's!!)
Bron had good numbers but settled to much for my taste on defense and for long 3's
We saw a small stretch of "good Lance" (but not enough)

All that being said, took a career night from Russ to beat us ...but a 1-3 trip with THOSE teams is a HUGE disappointment.

Luke Walton was dissatisfied with the Lakers perimeter defense. "Dudley had 10 points in the fourth quarter and three of them were blow-by layups. All respect to Dudley, he’s been a very good NBA player for years, but he shouldn’t be going by anyone at this stage of his career."

It’s true.

Until Hart and Kuz demonstrate they can play defense, they will struggle to become established starters. For all the offensive deficiencies in Lonzo and Ingram, they get the minutes because their defense doesn’t slip. That’s the next step for Hart and Kuz...no slippage on defense when getting the heavy minutes.

I’m not in a panic because this team plays so obviously different without Javale, BI, and Rondo. Those are major, major pieces of our puzzle. It sucks to watch, but things will get much much better when the fellas return.

I have no doubt about it. That's like half our normal rotation missing.

THIS^

in a nut shell.

Plus the injuries, illnesses, and bereavements have finally taken their toll on the road. We get Javale and BI back this Monday...Rondo hopefully later in the week so as long as we win during their reintegration everything is fine.

Yes, it's poor and I mentioned in the last one that not having McGee there, I think it impacts him the most.
