The ones that come immediately to mind:

"Plastic Hamburgers" Fantastic Negrito
"Corporation" Jack White
"Rabbit's Revenge" Tom Morello (feat. Bassnectar, Big Boi, and Killer Mike)
Seeing "Africa" on here is just another reminder for me of how ridiculous it is that Toto is not in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.

Yep. "Africa" "Rosanna" and "Hold the Line" were major hits. Bunch of talented guys who as I'm sure you know where much sought after studio musicians as well - played with tons of iconic albums in the 70's and 80's. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

It's not 2018 but I just heard it last week, This Kazakh singer named Dimash Kudaibergenov during his 2017 Chinese singing competition show. The french song is one of the best singing performance I've ever heard

Yes, absolutely. You would think that the fact that their peers know how talented Toto's members were as actual musicians would factor in, as if the hits and 40 million record sales aren't enough.

The guys in Toto have always been overlooked and even maligned despite their obvious talent:

I don't know if this is because I'm old too (over 40), but I saw an article of Billboard's choices for the top 100 songs of 2018 (not the top-charted songs, just their picks for the best 100 songs of the year), and I had never heard of at least 90 of the songs. I hadn't heard of many of the artists, either.

You can't go by lists or age. Just gotta follow your ear and where it leads you. If I had spent my many decades of music enjoyment going by lists or the age of the artist, I would have missed out on the vast majority of the music I've loved over the years. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

For the most part, I grew up listening to mainstream music, I suppose. But it's fun when I hear a band or an artist "slip through the cracks" and into my listening world, so to speak. One such example was when I saw Fleet Foxes on SNL some 10 years ago. I would have never discovered them otherwise, I'm sure. I heard their sound and I was totally hooked.

That's the wonderful magic of music - the stuff that finds you. Nothing is better than hearing something unexpected that sucks you in and leads you down a new path.
I still remember the day that one of my best friends heard me put on "Thorazine Shuffle" by Gov't Mule as he was leaving work and jumped back into my office and asked "WHO IS THAT?" and he's been a rabid fan ever since. Now we go to every show together when they are in LA. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Lukather did the main guitar overlay in Beat It. Most people think that's all Eddie, but he did the solo. To be asked onto a project like that shows you're no punk as a player. I loved Rosanna as a kid. You look at that video today and how stark it is and how "regular" they look as people and you think, "Those were the days." You could look like Toto or Journey or Collins and still be stars. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Oh hell yeah! That was one that was in the back of my mind. And all three of those are great, but Rateliff is amazing. There are a few live versions of "You Worry Me" floating around on YouTube and Spotify that are on my playlists _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I didn't really seek out new music in 2018. That said, I came across an who has been around for a little bit, who totally blew me away.
As per tradition I went to Stevie Wonder's House full of toys charity concert in December. Stevie usually gives the majority of the show time to his guest performers, and last year's was especially frustrating because some of the other acts were new artists being boosted by Stevie, and they were just terrible. The DJ was more entertaining. Then....thennnn...Lukas Nelson, Willie's son (Willie has a son?!) took the stage and hit us all with this:
disclaimer: there is no recorded version of this that does justice to what I heard at staples that night. I kept hearing "oh my god" and "dayum" from the people surrounding me in my section. FYI this show drew a majority-black attendance, and this young white crooning hippie brought down the house, more so than Stevie and all of the other soul and hip hop acts. Nelson received one of two unanimous standing ovations that night.
He also co-wrote some songs for the A Star is Born remake, which brings me to the other 2018 song that I liked:
Josh Kiszka (born April 23, 1996) – lead vocals, tambourine (2012–present)
Jake Kiszka (born April 23, 1996) – guitars, backing vocals (2012–present)
Sam Kiszka (born April 3, 1999) – bass guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, organ, piano, backing vocals (2012–present)
Danny Wagner (born December 29, 1998) – drums, acoustic guitar, backing vocals (2013–present)
I've heard them before but never knew what the band's name was. Thanks for sharing.
"Africa" Weezer
"Play" Dave Grohl
"Plastic Hamburgers" Fantastic Negrito
"Corporation" Jack White
"Rabbit's Revenge" Tom Morello (feat. Bassnectar, Big Boi, and Killer Mike)

I'll chime in here as I still listen to Africa - though I don't get out the vinyl - from time to time. Great production. The harmonies, with that faint but distinct Timothy B Schmit falsetto get me every time. Just the right amount of cowbell. . . . _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"
