Reunite the Band… The band is nearly back together (for now) as LeBron and Kuzma joined Rondo to give the Lakers a more complete team.

They were a bit out of rhythm to start the game, however. Both LeBron and Kuzma looked rusty and weren’t reading the floor well. They combined for 5 of the 9 turnovers as the Lakers led by a point at the half. (Kuzma would eventually be sidelined down the stretch in favor of others.)

The Lakers had a double-digit lead heading into the fourth, but the Clippers reeled them in behind Lou Williams and Boban Marjanovic, who helped push the Clippers to a 37-point fourth quarter.

With the game tied and 10 seconds left, we spaced the floor for LeBron, he attacked, was on his way to the rim and was stripped for a turnover. Neither team could hit a game winner, and we were off to overtime. (Welcome back, LeBron, now play 40 minutes.)

Lance Stephenson would drop 20 points in this game, sinking five threes and scoring a huge (controversial) And-1 in overtime. He attacked the rim in early offense and clipped Boban with elbow to the head for the And-1 layup. After a review, they left it as an And-1 (no flagrant or erasing the score).

“I just tried to get an easy bucket and make the strongest play possible,” Stephenson said.

Things got a bit more chaotic from there. After a jumpball turnover, a tech and a weird Rondo inbounds pass, where he tried to throw it off a defenders leg to run out the clock but it went right to Lou Williams, the Lakers managed to survive with the 123-120 overtime win as time ran out before Lou could get a shot off. LeBron finished with 24 points, 14 boards and 9 assists despite looking a bit rusty. Glad to have him back.

LeBron -- -- Well, we didn’t want to play him big minutes tonight if we could help it. But going into OT added another 5 minutes to his total. Nice to have his 27-8-7 on average production back in the lineup. We missed that and we missed some of the tough shot making he’s good at. He’d only score 5 points on 2-7 shooting to go with 3 turnovers in the first half. The rust started to shake off a bit as the game went along. Defensively, he looked a bit more sedentary than usual. He said he’s about 80 percent and still needs to get back into it. “I want to see how my body reacts tomorrow,” LeBron said after this long one. Late in regulation, he looked like he might win it for the Lakers on a drive but was stripped with 3 seconds left. In OT he had a couple of scores. Should have had an assist to McGee who blew a dunk and LeBron’s triple-double bid. He also had a big assist to Lance in transition, a rare opportunity on the break in the last 20 minutes. The Stats: He scored 24 points on 9-22 shooting (1-6 from three, 5-7 from the line) to go with 14 boards, 9 assists, 1 steal, 4 turnovers and no fouls in 40 minutes. He was a +2. The Action: He dropped a pass on the first possession. He missed a wing three. He found Ingram backdooring his man for FTs. He threw a behind-the-back pass away, three the other way. He missed a wing three. He filled the lane and Kuzma found him for the layup. Long outlet to Kuzma for the short transition jumper. He threw another behind-the-back pass away. He drew FTs and made one. He stripped a man. Kickout to Lance for a three. He hit KCP on the wing for a three. He missed a short fade across the lane. He missed an open three straight away. He knocked over Gortat in transition and scored a layup. He found KCP on an inbounds for a layup. He missed a jumphook from a few feet away. Second Half: He hit Zubac flashing to the ball off the screen for the jumphook (set play). He cleared out, backed his man down and attacked for FTs, he made one. He hit Zubac on a pocket pass for FTs. He sank a three off a return pass from Rondo. He hit Kuzma cutting for a score. He overpowered the smaller defender and drew FTs, he made both. Short on a wing three in early offense. He traveled into a step-back and swished the 22-footer. He was hit on a jumper with no call and missed. He missed a fading corner three. He made a tech FT. He sank a wing pull-up jumper. He missed a three on iso. He swished a crazy, tough turnaround on iso just beating the shotclock. He missed a turnaround. He couldn’t finish a lefty layup on a drive. He took an offensive board from behind his man and scored the putback (got a tiny shove in there). He attacked and went behind his back to McGee for FTs. He iso’d and missed a three. Overtime: He attacked off the high screen, side stepped around the big and scored the layup. He fed McGee for FTs. He attacked and sank a tough step-back in the paint.

Kuzma -- -- Hard to say how he was feeling out there. At times, he looked like he was moving fine. Other times, he looked a bit stuck in the mud. He was turnover prone early and Luke sat him to go with LeBron at the PF more with BI at SF. The three ball looked good as he drained a couple. Hopefully, we can get him going again. He said he’s feeling a hundred percent. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 4-8 shooting (2-3 from three) to go with 2 assists, 2 steals, 3 turnovers and 2 fouls in 23 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: He was stripped on a drive across the lane. He deflected a pass on one end, then fed LeBron in transition for the layup. He sank a baseline jumper off an outlet from LeBron. He sank a three straight away in early offense. He missed a turnaround at the FT line. He tried to iso, shot it into the arms of the defender, then was stuck in mud unable to recover the loose ball. He threw a pass away. Second Half: He swished a three in early offense. He stepped out of bounds on a baseline cut. Nice challenge on a switch to get a top. He came off a split with Ingram, took the pass from LBJ and scored quickly over the defender. Not close on an off-balance attempt. He missed a wing three on the pick and pop.

Ingram -- -- He led the Lakers with 11 points on 4-6 shooting in the first half. I would have liked to see a few more opportunities for him in the second half. When he’s on the move off the ball, good things seem to happen when we find him. We need more of that off-ball action, especially with Rondo and LeBron dominating the ball and looking for teammates. We ran him off the UCLA cut, which we usually reserve for Kuzma. That resulted in BI taking a pass and finding Chandler for a dunk. He had a sweet And-1 in the first half, taking contact, concentrating and hitting a tough fallaway. That one got the bench up. He’s been super efficient lately. Keep it up. The Stats: He scored 19 points on 7-12 shooting (0-2 from three, 5-5 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 4 assists, 2 turnovers and 4 fouls in 44 minutes. He was a +8. The Action: He attacked on a kickout, spun away from a defender and scored a layup. He backdoored his man and drew FTs when LeBron found him, he made both. He sank a face-up wing jumper over Beverley. Long out let to Hart for a layup. He airballed a jumper expecting a foul call after pumpfaking a man off balance to get some contact. He iso’d, backed his man down, got slapped as he turned but hung and sank the tough And-1 fallaway, he made the FT. He cut off Rondo’s probe, took the pass and scored a layup. He dribbled into a crowd, turnover. Second Half: He missed a corner three on a kickout. He snagged a tough pass from Rondo, bounced it once and reverse jammed. UCLA cut, he took the pass from LeBron as he came off the screen, drew the D and fed Chandler for the dunk. He iso’d and drew the foul on the pull-up wing jumper, he made both. He stroked a pull-up 18-footer off the high screen. He was picked at midcourt at the end of the quarter. He worked his way to the middle of the paint and hit the turnaround. He missed a three in transition next time down. Overtime: He missed an elbow jumper.

Rondo -- -- Very last play of the game, we had 2.6 seconds left, advanced the ball for the sideline inbounds pass. Rondo tried to throw it off the leg of the defender to run some clock, but the ball trickled down court where Lou scooped it up. Thankfully, time just ran out, but Rondo came down awkwardly and twisted an ankle on the challenge. Nearly a heart attack kind of play about to unfold in slow motion there. Just throw the ball to KCP in the corner or something. That would end the game, as well. He missed a wide open three with 40 seconds left that would have prevented the game to go into OT. Good job on the boards. We gave up some offensive boards to guards early and I think he decided to end that and crashed the defensive glass hard the rest of the game. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 6-14 shooting (1-3 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 13 boards, 7 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 5 fouls in 36 minutes. He was a -6. The Action: He picked his man and took it for an uncontested layup. He worked the two-man game with Zubac and set him up for FTs. He didn’t box out and his man got a board, leading to a three. He probed baseline and bounced to a cutting BI for a layup. He sank a pull-up elbow jumper. He was blocked on a reverse (should have taken the jumper again). He missed a corner three. Quick change of pace in early offense and he scored a layup. He pushed out and fed LeBron for the layup. He missed a floater off glass. Second Half: He hit LeBron for a three. Quick change of pace to nail a defender to the floor, and he scored a layup in early offense. His man sagged off him so he sank the wing three. He attacked in transition and fired a pass back to Ingram at a tough angle for a dunk. He was bumped with no call and missed the runner. He was blocked out of bounds on a drive. He missed a pull-up 16-footer. He was knocked down on a pass off for FTs, he made one. He attacked from the corner and missed a scoop. He reached and gave up an And-1 to Lou. He missed a wide open three with 40 seconds left. Overtime: He sank a baseline jumper, just beating the shotclock. He fumbled a pass away, layup the other way, uggh. Great foul to give with 6 seconds left.

Zubac -- -- He seemed to be in basically to match up with Gortat. As the game went along, it was Chandler/McGee getting the minutes. Zubac wasn’t able to finish cleanly, getting blocked from behind a couple of times. He did a good job finishing from the line when he earned FTs. But that was it. Luke sat him down the stretch. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 1-6 shooting (5-6 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 18 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: He missed an open 17-footer. Good job staying in the pocket and he drew FTs trying to hammer on Gortat, he made both. He was blocked from behind on a dunk attempt. He missed a lefty jumphook. Aggressive move in the paint to draw FTs, he made one. He was blocked again from behind on a dunk attempt. He was called for a travel on the break. Second Half: He sank a jumphook flashing off the interior screen to take the pass. He drew FTs off the pocket pass from LeBron, he made both. He couldn’t finish a lefty layup off the drive.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- With a couple more bodies back, the rotations shifted. KCP didn’t come in until 2 minutes into the second quarter. He had 8 points in just 7 first half minutes, hitting a couple of threes. When he’s hitting his threes, you probably want to play him a bit more as he’s streaky, but Lance kind of stole the minutes tonight with his strong play. Svi will likely be the odd man out now. The Stats: He scored The Action: He missed a 15-footer off an inbounds. He missed a corner jumper. Open in transition, he swished a corner three. He sank another three from the wing next time down. He scored a layup on a BLOB play when LeBron found him. He nearly sank a 40-footer at the buzzer. Second Half: He blew a two-on-one break, throwing the pass away (give that up a little earlier). He missed a forced 20-footer.

McGee -- -- How nicely set up was that lob play for McGee in OT. You could see that developing perfectly. The pass went up, McGee went up…and then he blew the dunk finish. Painful. Our bigs got manhandled by Boban a bit on the defensive glass off missed FTs. Those were killer putbacks. Some good challenges by McGee, especially late in the game. Nice job from the line, including a couple of big ones in OT. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 3-5 shooting (5-6 from the line) to go with 5 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 17 minutes. He was a +3. The Action: He fumbled away a pass. He denied a big twice on the same possession, right at the rim. He then swished a turnaround jumper on the other end. He scored a layup off the two-man game with Lance. He gave up a putback score at the buzzer. He rushed a point-blank tip and missed. Second Half: Good job battling on the offensive glass to draw a foul and regain possession. He attacked from the elbow and hit the jumphook. He was fouled on the defensive glass for FTs, he made both. He gave up a huge And-1 putback off a missed FT, Chandler in off that one. He up-faked off the LeBron feed and drew FTs with 2 minutes left up 6, he made one. He took the interior feed from LeBron and was fouled trying to finish, he made both FTs. He rejected a layup on help D. He blew a point-blank lob attempt out of a timeout, got to finish that.

Hart -- -- Thank goodness he came out to challenge Lou when he scooped up that inbounds on the final play. That forced him into another dribble and the clock ran out. That could have been a nightmare ending right there. Not much scoring. The D was solid, however. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-4 shooting (0-1 from three) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 21 minutes. He was a +4. The Action: He took the long outlet from Ingram, spun and scored the layup. He was blocked on a drive, getting hit in the head with no call. He forced his man into an airball defending the post. Second Half: He charged in transition filling a lane. He couldn’t finish a layup on the break. He missed a corner three in early offense. XXX

Chandler -- -- The three headed monster at the C spot tonight as we ran all three of Zubac, McGee and Chandler tonight. He said his back is starting to feel better. In the second half, Luke ran him as our second big off the bench. The he and McGee tag teamed the rest of the night. Some big offensive boards from him that usually resulted in good things like a three from Lance. Defensively, Boban was tough for him, as well, but I felt better with Chandler bodying him up than McGee. Great block on Boban at the rim late in the game. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 1-2 shooting (2-4 from the line) to go with 5 boards (3 offensive), 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a +4. The Action: Nothing to report. Second Half: He was hammered in the paint for FTs, he made one. He dunked off the interior feed from Ingram out of the UCLA cut. Held on the perimeter for FTs, he made one. He slapped out an offensive board and it led to a Laker three. Good challenge on Lou on the other end to get a miss. Offensive board kickout to Lance for a three. Three-second violation as LeBron didn’t shoot. He jammed up Lou on a trap to force a turnover. He kept an offensive board alive again on a battle. He gave up a putback on a missed FT. He rejected Boban at the rim.

Beasley -- -- We sat him in the second half as the rotation tightened. Defensively, he wasn’t great, but the guys seemed to understand how to play with him offensively. So that end looked decent on a few possessions and we were a +3 in his 6 minutes. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 1-2 shooting (2-2 from the line) to go with 3 boards and no fouls in 6 minutes. He was a +3. The Action: He attacked to his left and couldn’t finish. He attacked across the lane and scored the runner. He muscled his way to the rim and earned FTs, he made both. Second Half: He did not play in the second half.

Stephenson -- -- Career high making five threes in a game. Again with the Lakers on their heels and needing some production, he came up big with some threes in the fourth quarter. Those were big shots in the thick of the fight. He missed a huge one set up off an inbounds pass with 31 seconds left. That was a good look, just couldn’t knock it down. In OT things got a bid wild. He scored an And-1 on a rare early offense transition opportunity. On review it looked like he might be called for a tech for an elbow to the head, but they kept it at an And-1 and he made the FT. Later he lost the ball and was tied up at midcourt. Then got a tech (kind of weak, but he’s always playing a bit chippy and the refs called him for a bump as he stood up). Thankfully, they missed the tech because he also lost the jumpball. Some sketchy moments but it worked out. He was key to the win tonight. The Stats: He scored 20 points on 6-10 shooting (5-8 from three, 3-3 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 4 fouls in 30 minutes. He was a +0. The Action: He sank a tough three off a handoff at the wing, didn’t look on balance. He worked off the screen and fed McGee for a layup. He organized the offense so Beasley could have an iso and score. He missed a three off a swing pass. He swished a sideline three on a kickout. Second Half: He iso’d and missed the tough pull-up, we got it back to him off the miss and he drained a wing three. He drained a wing three off an offensive board kickout. He bailed out the offense on a deep three against the shotclock. He tied up a man and won the jumpball. He was fouled on an inbounds 90 feet from the hoop for FTs, he made both. He missed a good look at a three with 31 seconds left on the inbounds (two-for-one). Overtime: He kept an offensive board alive, got it back and missed a corner three. Rare quick strike for what looked like an And-1 layup against Boban in transition, they reviewed it and still gave it to him despite what looked like and elbow from Lance on the finish, he made the FT. He was tied up at midcourt when he couldn’t control a pass in the backcourt, he was called for a tech (bogus, they missed), then lost that.

Walton -- -- Score was tied 14-14 when the timeout came midway through the quarter… Beasley in for Kuzma with 4:38 left, Lakers down 1… Zubac, Rondo and Zubac all out with 4 minutes left, down 1. Lance, McGee and Hart in to go with BI and Beasley… A 10-1 run by the Lakers… They led 32-26 after the first quarter… He started a Chandler, Beasley, LeBron, Hart, Stephenson lineup… Down 2, KCP in with 10 minutes to go, Beasley out… Kuzma in for Hart, Lakers up 6. Rondo in for Lance… LeBron and Chandler out for Zubac and Ingram up 6… LeBron back in for KCP with 4:29 left… Zubac out for McGee, down 1… Hart in for Kuzma up 1 with a minute left… KCP in for Rondo and we immediately found him on the BLOB for a layup… The Lakers led 54-53 at the half… They pushed out to a 6-point lead and forced a timeout… Chandler in for Zubac, Lakers up 7 midway through the quarter… Hart in for Kuzma… Timeout, Lakers up 10… Stephenson in for Rondo out of that… Timeout with 3 minutes left, Lakers up 10… KCP in for LeBron out of that. No Beasley with Hart at PF… The lead was cut two 9 after the Lakers blew two fastbreaks and gave up a three. Luke called a timeout after the 5-point switch… The Lakers had a chance to go up by 17, but Hart couldn’t knock down a corner three… They led 87-75 heading into the fourth… McGee, Hart, Stephenson, KCP, Rondo lineup… Lakers drew 4 fouls in the first minute. Clippers in the penalty… LeBron in for KCP with 10:50 left up 12… Kuzma and Ingram in for LeBron and Hart, Lakers up 7…Up 2, Chandler in for McGee after the Lakers gave up an And-1 off a missed FT… LeBron back in with 6 minutes left for Rondo up 4… Up 2, he called a timeout after we gave up a dunk off the screen-roll. Defense getting bled badly so far this quarter. Need to string together some stops… McGee back in for Chandler up 4 with 4 to go… A couple of stops and scored and the Lakers forced a timeout up 8… After giving up a 4-point possession, missing an open three and giving up another three it was tied with 35 seconds left. A 9-1 Clipper run during this stretch. Timeout… Chandler, LeBron, Stephenson, Ingram, Rondo. Stephenson missed a wide open three on a two-for-one attempt on the inbounds. Timeout Clippers… Hart in for Rondo defensively. Ingram on Lou. They get a stop with 10 seconds left… He brought in KCP for the big, left Hart in to space the floor. LeBron stripped on a drive with 3.7 seconds left, turnover… Overtime starting lineup: Chandler, LeBron, Ingram, Stephenson, Rondo… McGee in after 2 minutes for Chandler, Lakers up 2… They had a 5-point lead off an And-1 by Lance in transition. Timeout Clippers with 45 seconds left… Nice foul to give with 6 seconds left… They got enough stops down the stretch…

Thanks DB! Time to make our playoff push. We have a chance if we can somehow stay healthy, shake the rust off and gel together as a team again.
