Interestingly, the 76ers and Lakers are basically trying the same things.

76ers YUTES: Embiid/Simmons
Lakers YUTES: BI/Lonzo/Kuz

76ers All Star/All Star caliber players: Jimmy/Tobias
Lakers All Star/All Star caliber players: LBJ/2nd max slot.

Obviously, huge difference is that our YUTES are not all-star players at this point, and pretty far from it.

So, the strategy on its face isn't unrealistic. It's just that our YUTES have not risen to Embiid/Simmons tier yet.

Kuz and BI both outplayed Simmons... I think BI's outscored Simmons every head to head game the last two seasons.

(And no, I'm not saying BI is better yet... I'm saying the gap isn't as insurmountable as the media would have you believe)

But Embiid... damn. Don't have an answer for that guy.

I'm not talking simply about head-to-head matchups though, as that is too small a sample size. But even if you equate BI/Ben/Kuz on the same tier, as you said Embiid is way ahead.

But there's some hope that BI/Lonzo/Kuz can compete with Ben (though I personally have Ben higher), we simply will lack Embiid's level of play. Even if we got AD, it would take the YUTES to get a player of Embiid's caliber.

Yeah Embiid might surpass AD... I think Simmons is stronger, has better handles, is a more dynamic player... but if he doesn't learn to shoot and Ingram improves his strength... Ingram's scoring versatility might edge him ahead. IF Kuz recovers his three ball... he also becomes an elite force on offense.

I have no delusions they will get to Embiid's level... but I'm hoping for three all star players who can trump a superstar/all star combo.

If Ben does get his shot in order... then our three can't match them without some unexpected quantum leap... like Kuz becoming an elite defender... and Zo developing into an all out scorer.

and that huge difference is why you try to sell high on your young prospects if you get an opportunity like what the Lakers were given with the best player in NBA joining our team with limited window to win.

I see Ben as a 6'10 Rondo (younger version). That's a disgustingly good player.

His shot is going to be an impediment but he can guard 4-5 positions, passes like savant and has such amazing body control.

I do agree he's physically way ahead of BI/Lonzo at this point, but he's only 1 year older than BI.

Yeah, the tall Rondo comp is a good one... though I'm not sure he has Rondo's competitive fire. We'll soon find out this playoffs though.

I think Rondo had that a-hole streak in him that made him a pest out there. I don't see that with Simmons, but thankfully Embiid has that.

Yeah with Butler and Embiid... they have enough a-holes.

Good balance with Tobias and Ben... that team is going to be tough to beat if they can keep it intact.

It'll be interesting to see who comes out of the east in the Post LBJ era....seems like all the top teams are fortifying their lineups for the playoffs.

I want to see the first time....or maybe second time Brown chooses to use Butler as a decoy on a critical game winning play. To date, Butler has not been able to handle being a 3rd or 4th option....honestly he has struggled with being #2.

Strangely enough, if LBJ had stayed, could he have beaten these up and coming teams?

Toronto-KL a good match for LBJ
Boston-depth and waves of guys to throw at LBJ
76ers-top end depth, basically 4 all star level players.
Bucks-Giannis, with Middleton and 2 shooting big men.

I think he fortuitously left before having to battle these guys to make it deep in the EC.

would have been a nice pickup for us....then get them to release Dedmon, and we could waive Muscala to pick him up.

I think they would have. With Love out with injury, the Cavs would have been vulnerable.

It's now

Warriors
Philadelphia
Toronto
Celtics

In terms of top 4 teams, and then Houston right behind that along with Denver.

Yeah Butler is the wild card... seems like every team always has one... but if they make the conference finals or the finals... it might keep him in line.

It's always a calculated risk when you get those types... but I have to say Philly is capable of winning it all. Even if you keep Simmons and Butler under control... then you have Embiid and Tobias going off... and still have Redick to contend with.

People were saying we shouldn't deal with Boogie's drama... and I get that... but now there's no one you can sleep on in that lineup.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both teams in the finals.

I have Bucks before the Celts. They have no answer for Giannis, let alone Giannis with Middleton and two floor spacers in Mirotic/Brook ( ).

So if we all agree the Warriors and Philly are the best teams with virtually all star starting lineups.

Does anyone think that we have a hope of LBJ and AD defeating these two without the third star?

So let's stop the madness of trading the core for AD.

It's a losing proposition unless Kyrie will come for cheap.

Even then, it would be very difficult as we would have three all stars and the others would have four or five.

Next year?

Do the Warriors keep KD or Klay?

Do the 76ers keep Butler AND Harris...and what is Embiid's health?

Notice each team has several 4-5 carat diamonds.

Isn't it crazy how quickly the top of the East has surpassed the West in terms of overall top 5 teams?

I can see the Celts over OKC.

I think that was more of a threat by the league before they came to an agreement.

I think it's possible given the moves... that

Kawhi goes to Clippers

That KD goes to New York or one of the LA teams

That Kyrie joins KD in New York or comes here.

That Butler moves because he's not happy

But remember we are all in if we make the trade with no paycheck coming to resupply for several years.

And several of the scenarios render our move useless... unless as we discussed we can secure the third agent.

You are right if you say we don't know what it will look like... but we can't afford not ascertaining the terrain before executing that trade.

IF it looks like either of those teams keep four of their players... I wouldn't do the trade because it will gut our team for the next five years.

You like to use the 4 or 5 karat analogy... but we will have one 5 karat, one quickly crumbling 5 karat... while the other teams will have four 4 karat players of their own.

Better to keep our two karat players who will likely become 3 or 4 karat players over the next five years... then trade them all for a window that is essentially meaningless if those super teams stay intact.

There is no guarantee that they become that though. And I don't think Magic is looking at a 5 year window either.

The landscape will look so different.

How many people imagined that the East would have 4 of the top 5-6 teams in the NBA last summer? Nobody.
