Alex Trebek announces he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer

(CNN)"Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek is hoping for a victory as he wages a battle against cancer.

The longtime game show host on Wednesday announced he's been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in a video posted to the show's YouTube account.
"Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this. And I'm going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends -- and with the help of your prayers also -- I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease," he said.
Trebek also joked: "Truth told, I have to because under the terms of my contract, I have to host 'Jeopardy' for three more years. So help me. Keep the faith, and we'll win. We'll get it done."

Happy to see he has such a positive attitude about something with very low odds of beating. I hope he does pull through.

Damn cancer!

Rooting for him even if he is stage 4. My long-time supervisor was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer seven years ago and still alive and kicking. He has the most remarkable positive attitude of anyone I know.

What a guy Trebek is. His message is filled with dignity and humor, even as he shares the news of an absolutely devastating diagnosis. Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is one of the worst things you can hear. The median survival rate is between 2 and 6 months. Of course, he'll have access to the best possible care, but at this stage, it's hard to do much.

I competed on the Jeopardy family of shows, and though Alex was not the host of the show I was on, this really sucks to hear. Give 'em hell, Alex.

Been a Jeapordy fan since the Art Fleming days. I wish Alex well and hope he beats cancer.

I'll take full recovery for 1000, and hope it's the daily double.

Terrible news. I think he honestly has the best job in the world, and of course he's perfect at it. Hope he beats the odds.

Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is almost always unbeatable, sadly.

PostPosted: Sun Nov 08, 2020 9:33 am    Post subject: George Alexander Trebek (July 22, 1940 — November 8, 2020)

Quote:
Alex Trebek -- the revered and beloved "Jeopardy!" host since 1984, whose calm but witty presence was must-see television for millions of Americans -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

A "Jeopardy!" spokesperson tells TMZ, "Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends."

The TV icon died Sunday surrounded by friends and family at his home. Alex had been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since announcing the news back in March 2019. He immediately started chemo after the diagnosis, but made no plans to retire and continued hosting his game show ... as impressively as ever.

Glad we had time to celebrate him a bit while he was still alive.

Kind of odd that SNL made a random bit out of Trebek and Sean Connery of all people and they both go within days of each other.
