Great school, but should have pulled a "Pepperdine" and moved to Orange County or something when they had the chance. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

Pepperdine is pretty spectacular.
I keep thinking that gentrification will work its way into the areas surrounding USC as it has other parts of LA, but it seems the revitalization of downtown stops at the LA Live.
Theres a bunch of homeless encampments a block or two away from the campus on the 110 freeway exit next to the Coliseum. I don't think those are going away anytime soon unless the police patrol the area and evict those people. Plus that will take a court order similar to what happened to the homeless encampments near Angel Stadium so I don't expect those to go away anytime soon.

They just finished USC village, they are pretty much invested in the area long term. What will happen is the area will eventually get better in the long term, but that is a very slow process.
Adams at Maple is pretty far away from the campus -- about a mile away. Even with regentrification, that's an area that's neither downtown nor LA Live nor USC/Exposition Park.
And yeah -- I spoke at USC last week, and it's always a little disconcerting when I drive there.
But like CI said, there was even a stabbing here at UCI, so it can happen anywhere to anyone at any time.

SC is located in a poor neighborhood. It's a high crime area, has been for as long as I can remember. It's going to take more than a notion to clean up the community surrounding the campus because there are so many houses, homes.I think most of the houses are rentals.
This student was not shot near the SC campus. Maple and Adams is about 2 miles from the campus. It's a area where drugs are sold on street corners. I wonder what he was doing in such a drug and gang infested area? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

All religion teaches one to love him or herself
As with in so with out
Fire and Brimstone was used by (bleep) trying to control people
How can a "In God we trust" nation
Have so little integrity
Youth gone wild
Let's get more guns to protect ourselves
I remember rolling to Staples center at 2am *business trip only got to stay overnight 1st seeing it in person
Billion dollar complex surrounded by homeless people and zombies
We know the problem for them starts early in life
So we just build more jails and prisons hoping to get rich
Off our For Profit prisoners?

Very poetic but existence of economic injustice is not an excuse not to be able to ensure the safety of your students
