There's just no way the Steelers were going to trade him to New England, even if they had offered their 1st round pick. I'm not saying they shouldn't have, but I'm just saying they would not have done it.

I agree, hence the Steeler's wouldn't do it -- but there is a world where the Pats could have published their offer and, if it was large enough, put pressure on the Steelers to accept it publicly and AT LEAST force another team to provide a bigger haul. Bringing the fiduciary concept into this isn't clean, but there's a superficial argument to be made that if the offer was large enough, the Steelers should be compelled to accept it regardless of who sent the trade offer along. And while the Steelers could justify why they chose to not deal with the Pats, i'd expect blowback if the accepted offer was significantly worse. The Pats also have a ton of picks this year - they could have offered their first, two thirds, and a fifth, and still have a second round pick and two thirds.

In any event, Steelers wouldn't do it - of course, totally in agreement there - but if i were the pats i'd have made a significant, public offer, if just to (bleep) Pittsburgh's world and force the rest of the league to ante up.

The NFL free agency window has begun. Gonna start to see a lot of deals. Raiders and former Patriots LT Trent Brown have agreed to a deal. Looks like about $36MM guaranteed.

Oh by the way, the Pats flipped pick #95 to the 49ers to get him last year, and will get comp pick #100 in next year's draft for allowing him to walk. And have 1st rounder Isaiah Wynn ready to take his place in 2019. Lather, rinse, repeat.

So many moves!

Mathieu to KC; big get for the Chiefs.

Speaking of the crowded safety market, Landon Collins signs with the Redskins for a ton of money.

Jaguars get Nick Foles, and give him $50MM guaranteed. (Feels like they were bidding against themselves, but hey, he's better than Bortles!)

D-Jax traded to the Eagles. Perhaps it rejuvenates him, though he will probably remain highly boom-or-bust.

Humphries to the Titans, who beat out the Pats for his services. The Titans also re-upped Kenny Vaccaro.

Amendola and, more importantly, Trey Flowers to the Lions. The Lions also signed former Seahawks slot CB Justin Coleman.

Crowder to the Jets.

Funchess to the Colts (for $13MM!), though at least it's only 1 year and he has to reach all incentives to hit that number.

Suggs leaves the Ravens and signs with Arizona.

The Bills sign PFF's #6-rated center last season, former Chief Mitch Morse, and make him the highest-paid center in the game. He's missed a lot of games over the past 2 seasons, but they absolutely need to improve Josh Allen's protection, as well as get better for the running game.

Speaking of which, Frank Gore just won't go away; he signed with Buffalo for $2MM. Hilariously, Buffalo's top 3 RB's are 30 or over.

I'm sure I missed some stuff. Le'Veon tweeted he's torn with his decision. Earl Thomas is out there. Tyrell Williams. Lots of stuff to still happen. A possible OBJ trade?

Massive opportunity now for Godwin and OJ Howard.

He's a solid player, not great, but solid. He did look better in 2017. Perhaps he didn't want to over-exert himself last year playing on the franchise tag, who knows.

In more safety news, it looks like the Chiefs are going to release Eric Berry, after signing Mathieu. Berry will probably be able to land an incentive-laden, one-year deal, assuming he wants to keep playing. But given that he's played 3 games in 2 years, KC is probably doing the right thing but cutting Berry, who is due $13MM. (They are paying Mathieu about $14MM a year.)

really not 100% sure what the Bucs plan is...I had assumed they may release Gerald McCoy and Jackson....to resign Kwon Alexander and Humphries. Then once I saw they did not resign Kwon, thought they would be in the market for Honey Badger....but then he signed elsewhere.

Can't help but feel the Colts should be more aggressive in pursuing defensive players. I guess the plan is to build through the draft, but they're not going to hit on every pick (though Ballard has a good track record so far).

Cross Weddle off the list. Rams signed him.

Smart move, he will never be called for pass interference.

Brown is a good receiver if you have a vertical QB.

No QB threw more deep passes (by percentage) last season than Josh Allen, so this is absolutely right. And Foster can go get it too. I suppose Beasley will be the WR of choice underneath when they actually call a quick pass near the line of scrimmage.

Ingram will likely end up with the Ravens, and Le'Veon with the Jets, it's looking.

Former Rams guard Rodger Saffold signs a 4-year, $44MM deal with the Titans, with about half of that sum guaranteed. The Rams now have to replace their starting left guard and center.

4 years, $42MM for Joyner. Probably about half of that is guaranteed, I'm guessing.
