Askren said it was the same mental thing Woodley had against Rory, backing up and not pulling the trigger

Nothing more perplexing and frustrating than watching a fighter unable to or flat out refusing to pull the trigger. But there’s a reason for that and that’s where you have to give it up to Usman. He played Wood like a frisbee. Very little fear and optimal confidence.

Not sure what kind of champ Kamaru is gonna be but he had Woodley’s number.

Yup. Ironically woodley should have just lost patience and thrown down like Cody did. He prob would have won a striking exchange.

And Cody definitely should have been more patient and picked his shots

Have to figure Ty was just in survival mode after Round 2. If he decides to throw down, it's essentially a last stand and the his chances of being finished go up significantly. There's a point, in fights like those, like there are in basketball games, where the contest is won or lost. After the first couple minute of the second, Ty knew it was inevitable, made the choice to wait for a miracle that never came and resigned himself to the inevitable process.

Cody is not a bright dude. He has a glaring weakness, twice exposed in his most recent fights and he decides to get into no defense fire fight and expects to win. Yeah, he's done. He can still make a career out of it but not if he keeps taking these KO losses.

Agreed. I think Woodley wanted to save face and not get KO'd. Getting dominated doesn't look at bad from the standpoint of his music and acting career.

I think Conor made that same choice when he was getting crushed by Khabib

I know this much
Impressive how well he must train his body to take all that damage
Woodley was a tank

I didn't see much of an offensive arsenal from Woodley.
Does he lack offense?

Agreed man that was some serious punishment.

No his offense is really good but he's a counter puncher. Usman just kept marching forward and going for the takedown. Woodley had no answer. There wasn't anything to counter off of

One more thing on Saturday, I don't understand what the uproar is surrounding Herb Dean's call. All 3 ringside announcers saw Robbie go limp and screamed as much.

So, yes, Lawler, looked to be fine immediately afterward but, in real time, even I thought Dean let the choke go too long. Lawler looked unconscious af. So, while it is a shame that it happened this way, I don't see how anyone can blame Herb Dean for being incompetent or crooked for making that mistake.

Not to mention, there was over a minute left in that round. Ben was only going to keep the anaconda squeeze on and work toward a cleaner and cleaner position.

So, while I understand the disappointment, I don't get the outrage.

(Edit)

Here's GracieBreakdown weighing in and putting it in more real terms than I could ever:

I agree with the Gracie video analysis on the Askren stoppage. Askren is a guy who crushes watermelons using choke holds. Can never be 100% sure, but I am 95% certain that Lawler had very little hope of doing anything except sleeping soundly in the following 5-10 seconds.

Lawler knew KNEW he was instantly out

When I first looked at Askren I was like wtf is this goofy looking dude doing in here
Then when I saw homeboy put that clinch on Lawler like he was trying to pop the head off a (bleep) BEAR ..

Lawler couldve instantly become as stupid as Garbrandt

As others said
The choke wasnt gonna stop
He was out once
I'm wondering if A Doctor could tell us what Lawler was facing
Instantly lost enough oxygen to brain to go limp
Wakes with vise lock squeezing around his head about to slip over his Adams apple

*Proof he went unconscious.. He didn't try to get out of the hold l. Sat there waiting to die

Y’all know.

So then it begs the question, why so much outrage?

People just don’t like Ben?

I think Lawler is just a really likeable guy and Dana wanted more out of their fight together. Felt bad for Lawler to have a comeback end that way
I do think you are correct that Dana didn't want Askren to win so easily

Part of it is the response Askren gave. Seems like a fairly intelligent man.
How did he say it. It was so dry but honest

It's not my job to decide the fight. Like he should've felt bad for Lawler
And add an asterisk to his first win

(bleep) that. Where is the GIF of dude landing from over 5 fret in the air directly on his skull and using his intelligence as a wrestler to Survive that ish...wtf?

Nobody talking about that ^^ This isn't WWE

Has Lawler answered why his hand dropped like he was unconscious?
Dropped it for entertainment value!

Always been a big JDS fan
Just a great boxer and a great dude

He had a middle part of his career where looked like he may have hit a wall
But he’s gotten through that and has his confidence back
He has knock out power and just an outstanding stand up fighter so accurate on his shots

Id like to see Cormier vs JDS

Why not Ngannou vs. JDS? Let's see who has better power!

Lewis vs JDS did not disappoint.

They gotta make DC fight somebody. This waiting on Brock nonsense is useless.

DC, Stipe, JDS, Ngannou. A great champ and 3 legit contenders. Gotta keep the division moving

JDS Ngannou is the next big non-title HW matchup for sure. No-brainer.

Off topic but Derrick Lewis has to be one of the best examples of raw clay that'll remain partially shaped.

Anyone else just roll their eyes when they hear Jon Jones talk about anything?

But anyone watching the Ronda Rousey stuff on WwE?
It’s really good
Similar to the 96-99 era wrestling

I don’t know about anyone else but I get a lot of satisfaction out of watching hype trains get derailed. I get that when a whole country is rabidly supporting a dude, it’s the smart money play but this is the mf’ing fight game and there’s a way to do it without overdoing it. I hope the UFC learns that lesson.

That being said, props to Masvidal. One game af mofo who knows who he is and knows how to fight. Puts Woodley’s last win in a new light too.

Ronda is born for the WWE. Complete natural.
