We all grow attached to our young prospects. When they succeed, we all have a sense of paternal/maternal pride. They are "our guys."
But the fact so many have been jettisoned off for cap space and the "we will be back, back" plan stings. I'm guessing to Jesse, Ryan West and the rest it must sting even more.
Wish I could know what they are thinking watching such prospects who they discovered as diamonds in the rough start to bloom elsewhere.
Especially when the moves are non-sensical. One thing if prospects are shipped out for a strategically sound return. But moves like Zu for Muscala and Thomas Bryant just being cut are tough ones. Every time I think about these moves, I get pissed. Curious how our scouting dept. feels.
And if it's true Magic overrode their suggestion last year to draft Moe... salt in the freaking wound, man. |

The department is being run by one of the owners, so the answer to that might actually be more important than in most organizations. For those who have worried about whether Magic is listening to the scouting department, that's actually a pretty good situation.
The relevant question might be how is the department scouting current NBA players. The best organizations spend real resources on that scouting. |

This franchise since the 2000s have never missed back-to-back (let alone 6 consecutive) playoffs. We've never had to go through the yearly draft lottery and watch 19 year olds year after year stumble out the gate. I never thought there was a world where we kept all of our high draft picks and re-signed them. In fact, JC is the only one since we started being lottery players to be re-signed, and he was a 2nd round pick who was then traded. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I don't think you can get too attached to prospects as a scout. As soon as one draft is over, you have to move on to the next, and the next. |

I would question how much time Magic spends watching these prospects? Does he watch some Sportscenter highlights and then, in his one hour monthly visit to the office, tell the scouting department who to pick? _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

My guess is they're professional about it and don't get worked up in the same way that fans do. |

Agreed.
Of the 60 players drafted in 2015, 31 were in the league after 3 seasons - 5 are full time starters
Of the 60 drafted in 2014, 30 were in the league after 3 seasons - 11 are full time starters.
Of the 60 drafted in 2013, 36 were in the league after 3 seasons - 11 are full time starters.
