when I was a kid my uncle ingrained in me that any mature person should have no problem eating the ends slices from a loaf of bread, which was something I carried into adulthood. But now Ive accepted its simply not the same and pass over those end slices, only eating them if they are the last two slices left (and hoping the bread goes stale before I have to eat them)

I prefer the heel. And because everyone hates it it’s always available.

Yup. The crust of good bread is the best part.

You're right about the hamburger buns.

Sometimes. Usually I'll turn them inside out, or I'll take a really sharp knife and trim off the crust.

My mom used to boil the can of condensed milk to make it. I think buying the glass jar is healthier than burning cans on the stove though...

The 2 end pieces are the only part of American loafed bread I'll even consider eating. Other than those, I' can't stomach American "sandwich" bread. If I can't get to Larsen's Bakery for some fresh Danish bread, before they close, then my appetite for making a sandwich wanes completely.

How many here thought the purpose of the crust was to keep the bread fresh longer?
