PostPosted: Fri Mar 15, 2019 5:05 am    Post subject: LG March Madness 2019!!!

It is about that time when we all complete March Madness brackets with so much confidence only to watch them begin to fall apart within 48 hours after the opening tournament tip off. We have had a fun few weeks in recent years, even though the game results were not always cooperative with our predicted outcomes. I simply renewed our group from last year. Everyone welcome to join.

When can I complete my bracket?
--After the field is announced on Selection Sunday (March 17th) @ 3:00 PM (Pacific Time) on CBS.

When does my bracket have to be completed?
-- Edits can be made up to an hour before the fist game tips off on Thursday, March 21st @ 9:00 AM (Pacific Time).

How many brackets can I complete?
-- One

What is the Group link?
-- LINK to Yahoo Tourney Pick'em LakersGround page.

What is the Group password?
-- 8Kobe24

**Note**
When you're setting up your bracket, be sure to unselect the "show personal email" box, and make sure your bracket is listed under a username (prefer your LG ID), and not the name on your birth certificate.

ironically, I will probably do better this year since I have watched significantly less college basketball this season.....I usually overthink things.

Not much fun without some local LA teams in it.

A couple of instant thoughts:

Duke gets the #1 overall seed, which means the committee heavily weighed Zion's missed games. But then they put Michigan St. in their region as the 2 seed, which makes no sense because MSU should have probably been the 6th-best overall team (clearly ahead of TENN and MICH, imo).

Kansas getting the 4 seed in the Midwest is an absolute joke, given that they will be playing a virtual home game in the Sweet 16 if they get that far. I'm sure North Carolina is just pleased as punch with that.

one of the worst brackets in years....the #1 team gets Michigan State as their #2?!?!? Gonzaga is the 4th #1 seed, and they appear to have gotten the clearest path to the Final 4?!?!?! Kansas gets a #4 Seed, but get to play Home games in the 2nd weekend?!?!?! Cincinnati should be at least a #5 Seed....not a #7 Seed! The Big 12 has the highest conference NET rating....#1 in conference SOS....and #1 in Conference RPI, but they only get 6 teams in?

I agree with Cincy, however I did notice that they get to play in Columbus, so I think that probably makes up for being a 7, don't you? I mean, would you rather be a 5 and play in, say, San Jose, or would you rather be a 7 and stay in your own state? They also would likely play Tennessee if they win, and let's just say that Rick Barnes doesn't have a great history in the tournament.

It is not as much about Cincy or any team that is over or under seeded...it is more about the trickle down. Iowa got a #10 Seed and expect to play a #7 Seed....but they get a Top 20 team in the country.....Tennessee had a great year, but now they have to go through a team that should be a #5 seed just to get to the 2nd weekend.

Coach Cal brought this to my attention several years ago when he was complaining that Kentucky was seeded too low.....he said it was not about his team, they would be fine, but you are putting their opponents at a disadvantage. He was right that year as Kentucky had multiple "upsets" as they went deep into the tournament.

I think that's quite possible. If Wade can't play for K-State, they are going to have their hands full with UCI, which is an outstanding defensive team. Could be a low-scoring one and anytime you have a game like that, it just takes a couple of plays late to swing a game. I also think Wisconsin is vulnerable, and I happen to think that Altman is a fantastic coach.

I won this a couple years ago. Was co winner 4 years ago I believe.

Last year was 10th or so I believe? Still in the top third. Last year was tough going, over thinking got the best of me.

Always adds extra fun to the tourney...

Thanks Adkindo for setting things up!

I've barely watched any college ball this year outside of a couple Duke games to see the Zion spectacle. I'll be completely winging this, which could be a good thing given my results over the last few years lol

no problem and good luck.....the first weekend, when it is non-stop and it seems like 4 games are being played at all times is one of my most favorite sports weekends on the calendar.

So in the annual NCAA Draft I do with the 8 of us (you get 8 teams each, pretty simple, with a randomly drawn order in each odd-numbered round with the reverse order in the following round), this is what I ended up with:

North Carolina (2nd overall)
Auburn (15th)
Villanova (18th)
Oregon (31st)
Ole Miss (40th)
Seton Hall (41st)
Georgia St. (56th)
Montana (57th)

You get one point for each win. Typically, you need at least 11 points to have a shot at winning the title. Remarkably, in the previous 30 years we've done this (started in 7th grade), a tiebreaker for the title has only been required once. We all fill out a bracket before the first game tips on Thursday, and in the event of a tiebreaker, the most wins on an owner's bracket wins the day.
