Neither. I'd pick Monty over Lue. But I'd pick many over both of them.

Neither until we have the right PBO. He may not believe in either and that will not be a good thing - see Magic / Luke.

It would be interesting to offer him a blank check and see what he wants.

The Lakers basically print money, and that's without making the play-offs every year like they used to.

They have 2 choices, get someone who will cater to Lebron (Lue); or get someone who can chew Lebron out (Pop, ?, ?, ?)

Or wait until we get a PBO.

From there, we can back channel coordinate with Kawhi to see who is best to coach BOTH LeBron AND Kawhi.

Add Lue and you're not getting any of the top Free Agents this year. The only message a move like that will send is they will be subservient to LeBron, not partners.

We are so up a creek without a paddle...

I voted for Monty Williams.

He could come in without being seen as "LeBron's Guy" even though I think that is a bit unfair for Lue.

Monty Williams has experience and the right demeanor to be successful here, that said I would prefer they not hire anyone until they clarify the front office situation, but perhaps by hiring a coach they are saying this IS the front office going forward.

If Monty helps us land Kawhi, I don't even see how this is a debate.

We already have LBJ under contract... and even if he was unhappy and asked to be traded that's a benefit for us.

Letting Pelinka choose the coach gives him power in the future...

That's more power than a guy hanging on a ledge should have. Jeanie is basically begging for Rob to hold her hostage for the PBO job.

I'm not happy about this at all. If you're planning on giving Pelinka the job, just do it already.

Make Pop the PBO.

I don't know. I'm not convinced that we are getting one this off-season.

Magic did us no favors with the timing of his announcement.

He had full authority to fire Rob & Luke and did neither.

Correct.

They need to find the biggest gun possible who will take the job and let him/her run the show.

It's easy to forget now, but Magic wasn't even originally in charge when he was brought back into the fold. He comes in, talks in vague terms for a few weeks, then Jim and Mitch get fired.

Two years later, seemingly afraid of striking out this off-season, he walks away again, and leaves awkward pieces in place.

The only reason we hire a coach before a POBO is if the Lakers are considering someone from within that will not care to bring his own coach and GM. Another amateur move.

Pelinka isn't on a ledge. He's sitting on the throne.

People worry too much about the coach.

In the NBA the best roster wins the title, usually.

Monty Williams for me but Lue is fine. A coach is very important as opposed to what some think. He is what keeps the fire going with the players if they trust him and believe in what he's telling them. The psychology of basketball is just as important as the skill level. Some players will go through a wall to play for a coach, and being able to forge a tight bond between veterans and younger players will be very important for this group.

almost anyone but Lue.....and I really mean almost anyone. Lue will scream Lebron/Klutch are calling the shots....no non-Klutch star FA will consider the Lakers....and oh yeah, Lue is not a very good coach.

I hate the idea that this storied franchise has capitulated its entire direction around the close of LeBron James's career. And its no disrespect to James, but this is exactly what people considered worst case scenario when we got LeBron James-- that we would sell out to win "one more" for LeBron as he enters his late 30s. If we were a team like the Cavs or the Magic, I would understand that, but the standard has always been championships here. I pray that the new regime, whoever it is, puts the longterm prosperity of this franchise above the immediate desires of LeBron James, as great as he is.
