NBA coaching is a bell curve.
Most people fall in the middle (close to Luke). If people are expecting a significant coaching upgrade. People are gonna be disappointed.
Unless we literally steal a head coach from another team.
And I'm not sure what the rules are on coaches under contract.
Bard probably does. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Which coaches can be on the market if they lose in the 1st round? Brett Brown? Billy Donovan? _________________ .... |

This isn’t some Luke level experience |
When did he do that? After watching him in NO. A Luke Walton level coach is what I'm expecting if he gets the job. Hopefully with a better staff though. |
https://www.basketball-reference.com/coaches/willimo01c.html |
That's actually the page I looked at before posting. He's a sub .500 coach. Not saying he's bad. But I'd expect similar results if Luke was coaching those rosters. Or Alvin Gentry for example. They all look like a similar level of coach to me. |
The veto hurt Monty and New Orleans more than it directly hurt us. Eric Gordon was chronically injured early in his career and Aminu was a late bloomer in this league. Kaman and Jarrett Jack were the two leading scorers in 2012. The following two seasons were injury plagued, Greivis Vasquez and Ryan Anderson led the team in total points AD's rookie year and Brian Roberts started at point for half of 2014.
He makes the playoffs at #8 in AD's third year, and the Pelicans fire him after a 45-win season that had its share of injuries. Game 3, Warriors overcame a 20 point 4th quarter deficit to win and take a 3-0 lead. Jrue Holiday wasn't healthy for the playoffs. AD was reportedly upset with the move. |

They are going to make the mistake to hire someone just because he is LBJ buddy. Just hire the best coach available.
LBJ is 35 years old. They have to stop making his wishes and start to think about the Lakers organization. He is just one of the players for gods sake.
Hire the best guy, not LBJ's friend. |

There are talented assistant coaches out there so why we go after Howard? Not because his talent but connections to Pelinka and Lebron. Sadly we won't able to hire best available coach due to nepotism running with the franchise. |

Bashing the new coach before he (or she) is even hired. That's taking it to the next level. _________________ Not a legend |

I think Monty is an excellent player's coach. Players absolutely respect him. However, I cannot speak to his Xs and Os acumen. Is that what this team needs, a coach who can command the respect of the team but might not be the top Xs and Os tactician? Maybe he would be confident enough to put together a top notch staff.
Lue, well, he earned his championship ring with the Cavs. To say that he didn't earn it is just disingenuous. He will likely go down as the only coach to have taken down the mighty Warriors at its peak. You want to blame the Dray suspension and Bogut's injury? OK, how about not counting Round 1 (Kyrie and Love injured) and Round 3 (they added KD)? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Pelinka is the GM. Most teams don’t even have a president of basketball operations. |

The point is that RP is very clearly going to remain as our head of b-ball ops, whatever his actual title ends up being. |

Teams without PoBO usually have an owner or a President involved with basketball decisions, which is not our case. We need someone to draw the strategies, look the big picture and be present in major movements. GMs are the ones responsible for making those strategies happen and run daily businesses. _________________ .... |

Have all of our youth. Draft pick . Money. A serviceable bron. Most likely upgrade at coach. A gm who seems determined to prove himself and guy lifting org into 21st century |

The only black coach he ever had a problem with was M. Brown. And even he put up with Browns poor coaching style for years. If we are going to hire any white or non black coach it would have to be someone like coach K probably, and even that will eventually be a problem imo. I guess I don't have a problem with it, but if we could of got someone like a Malone right now it would be stupid not to hire him.
But yeah, if you dont see this you are blind. |
This has never crossed my mind but you maybe right. |
Its even deeper then that, he wants a black gm as well. Before he decided to leave the Cavs they were trying to hire Chauncey Billups? When they realized he was leaving is when they hired the kid. In Lebron's defense I think it is he wants someone who he can relate to. It just so happens that more black people have played the game, and I think that is part of it too.
Its kind of amazing to see a player wield this kind of power, if anything.
And who is going to question Pat Riley?
Forthe record I do think Lebron and Griffin were good.
I think it would of been great for us to hire Griffin. But I think he looks at this dumpster fire and says no. Smart man. |
LOL you are making some major assumptions.
LeBron's greatest run came with Spo. He had his initial issues with Spo-- the man he wanted to be coach by was Pat Riley.
In Cleveland, the reason why he "killed" David Blatt is because he was inexperienced, had real incompotent coaching moments when the Cavs were possibly the best team in the NBA, nor did he know how to really navigate an NBA locker room.
Ty Lue got the job because the Cavs were already high on him. Lue almost had the head coaching job there when they decided to opt for David Blatt. Somehow they convinced Lue to stay on as an assistant.
And then you continue talking out of your rear by saying LeBron chose Chauncy Billups. LeBron wasn't involving himself in the Cavs GM search because he pretty much already was leaning towards leaving for LA the next summer. In fact, Chauncy decided not to take the job because he caught wind that Kyrie wanted out and he caught wind that LeBron would likely be leaving as well.
Please stop spreading your own imagined BS. |

After listening to the Woj podcast when he interviewed Monty Williams, Im hoping we hire him. Thoughtful, eloquent, humble, and has a hell of a pedigree. _________________ Darvin |
