Former USMNT World Cup vet Fernando Clavijo has died after a 5-year battle with cancer. Multiple myeloma, to be exact. He also coached in MLS. I remember him from the '94 World Cup team, and, of course, the '94 World Cup was hosted here in the U.S.

RIP.

I have no memory of Clavijo. I had to go look him up. He was from Uruguay and moved to the US. It looks like he had retired from soccer, moved to the US, then got sucked back in during the dark days of the 1980s. Somehow, he wound up on the USMNT at age 38, when he was mostly coaching and playing futsal. And he started a couple games! Can you believe we were that thin? It looks like he got a red card in the round of 16 against Brazil. Later, he coached in MLS.

I’m sorry I don’t remember you, Fernando. You must have had some stories. RIP.

RIP Gordon Banks

It was a different age, for sure. The best goalkeeper in England played for . . . Leicester and Stoke.

Congrats, GK.

Lots of carnage so far. Real Madrid, PSG, and Roma go down. Dortmund was less of a surprise.

Goodbye to Man City in the UCL.

Semifinal #1: Ajax vs. Tottenham

Semifinal #2: Liverpool v. Barcelona

You could have gotten some good odds on #1. We could have a final of Ajax v. Barcelona (the Cruyff Tribute Final) or Tottenham v. Liverpool (the EPL Final).

I haven’t seen the VAR call in overtime. For those who saw it, what’s the verdict?

Sterling's disallowed offside goal.

Ball came off Bernardo Silva's? leg when Eriksen tried the backpass and Aguero was in an offside position.

Eriksen passed the ball, but it hit Bernardo's leg. Aguero was coming BACK from the area, so his position itself was never in doubt. The ball hitting Bernardo's leg changed everything, though.

Unreal game last night, still a bit disappointing about the VAR controversy. For me, VAR is useless unless it's being operated by competent people, which clearly doesn't seem to be the case.

The Llorente goal clearly hit his arm first. Think the disallowed City goal was correct, but the handball that went un-noticed is criminal.

Barcelona already had a pathetic choke job last year against Roma.

The team is old. They must part ways with Suarez, Piqué, Busquets, etc.

I'm an absolute wreck. The greatest club in the world. Roma last year, Dortmund two years before that. Now tonight.

Can we lift the pot this time, please?

Divock is the coolest guy on the planet. I was on the ceiling and he looked like he was on his way back from the poolside bar...

Madness, great spirit again. Will be a tough game (always is against them), but bring it on.

Now we need Arsenal and Chelsea to close out the Europa League final. That would peculiar, especially if Man City wins the domestic treble.

This season’s EPL:

Man City — Likely domestic treble.

LFC and Spurs — 2nd and 3rd plus UCL final.

Chelsea and Arsenal — 4th and 5th plus UEL final.

Man U — UCL quarterfinal plus no more Mou.

That’s all great, but my team of the season was Wolves. They were a lot of fun this year. Honorable mention to Newcastle, who proved once again that anything is possible with Benitez. Biggest disappointment goes to Fulham, though you can make a strong case for Man U.

Liverpool wins the UCL. Klopp gets the cup final monkey off his back. I saw only the first half, but it seemed there were more fireworks in the pregame show.
