https://lebronwire.usatoday.com/2019/05/02/rumors-agents-rival-gms-referring-to-linda-rambis-as-lakers-shadow-owner/

Quote:
Although Rob Pelinka is nominally running the Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s not all that clear who he is reporting to.

And the scuttlebutt in some league circles suggests that Pelinka is reporting to Lakers Executive Director of Special Projects Linda Rambis, who is looked at by some as a ‘shadow owner.’

Amin Elhassan on ESPN: "Some agents and GMs around the league have dubbed her the shadow owner of the Lakers, that everything goes through Linda Rambis, and if you want to convince Jeanie of something, you’ve got to get Linda first."

Ramona Shelburne on ESPN: "The fact that people talk about that now is funny to me, because it’s been that way for 40 years. They have been best friends. And personality-wise, if you know them, it sort of makes sense. Jeanie can be shy. Linda is more of a talker. She’s more of a doer. The difference is, in the past, her role has been more as a consigliere or an events person whereas, right now, there’s a lot more dealing with agents."

So it appears Linda Rambis is handling a lot of the duties of talking with other power brokers. In the absence of Magic Johnson, it appears the Lakers family that was always there is simply consolidating their power.

Rambis has long been an advisor to Buss and her husband, Lakers legend Kurt Rambis, is also a team executive in basketball operations helping Pelinka conduct the coaching search.

There have been whispers about the power of Rambis in relation to Buss for a while, but that influence is now extending outside of the Lakers organization and into the NBA at large.

What do you expect from Jeanie? She's gone on record comparing her firing Jim and Mitch as Khaleesi in GoT burning down the slave owners. She thinks this is GoT right now and Linda Rambis is the hand of the Queen.

Well Ramona is on ESPN 710 now saying Linda Rambis is Jeanie’s Chief of Staff. And that Linda has been advising Jeanie for years now.

What if it is true? Is that a bad thing? Jeanie doesn’t have the franchise running on all cylinders, maybe Linda can help with that?

If that’s the case how could we call a woman “The Don” or “The Mobster”?

I honestly think people are taking this Linda Rambis thing a little to far.. we already know she’s been with Jeanie for 40 years which at that time.. even Dr. Buss was alive... I think the reality is that we like being drama queens and now we are acting like Linda Buss is the catalyst on everything Lakers.. for all we know she could just be a advisor which isn’t bad for a person who’s had success on some levels.

Side note about Jeanie and Pelinka:

Ramona on 710 saying Jeanie severing ties with Pelinka may affect her relationship with Kobe.

Kobe is no longer a Laker, why does it matter?

That shouldn't be a factors for keeping Pelinka. As massive of a Kobe fan I am, he's no longer working with the franchise and his friendship with Jeanie is impacting this team negatively right now.

Ramona on Mason Ireland talking about the Linda stuff now saying Jeanie and Linda have been running things together ever since. She also mentions Pelinka and one reason why it’s tough to just cut ties with Pelinka is because it could possibly effect relationships with Kobe.

The media just loves talking Lakers and thanks to Jeanie, there is a lot of goofy stuff to talk about. Jeanie can control the local media and make them say nothing but positive stuff but the national media is a different animal.

I was in sells for awhile and Linda is what you call a gatekeeper. Most decision makers have them and to get to the decision maker you have to go through them first.

This is how it is run in most circles whether its a business or a family. This really is some basic stuff here

That's an insane reason to keep someone employed. If Kobe isn't going to talk to her anymore if she fires an inexperienced employee who has had minimal success, then they clearly aren't friends anyway.

I think that is 1 of the reasons why the Organization is content on not letting anything leak, cause the microscope with the Lakers is much more larger then the Clippers, cause no one cares about the Clippers...

Kobe wanted Bynum traded for Jason Kidd and no one listened to him when he begged for the trade.. hopefully this is a non-issue... if Jeanie wants to cut ties with Pelinka but isn’t because of her relationship with Kobe then she needs to sell the team ASAP.

This article is such BS and has hater written all over it. It's written for the simple purpose of creating anti Laker sentiment, and most Laker fans fall for it. No mater how quiet the Lakers are this stuff keep flowing out. The media in this country is out of control.
