Wonder if any of you were as annoyed as I was seeing yet another one of these. Haha.

At any rate, it’s green/gray to me but apparently some folks see pink/white.

More fun with color when white balance is off...

All I know is that guy(?)'s hand needs to be checked for gangrene.

I see pink with green...my corpus callosum is either fantastic or nonexistent.

For the record, it has exactly zero to do with right-left brain dominance, which is what the tweet said.

It's just an optical illusion -- more specifically, one of color constancy. Our brains evolved to favor consistency over accuracy, in both memory and perception. Since the same color will look different in different lighting conditions, our brains do a little bit of editing on the fly. For example, white actually appears blue in low light conditions, but our brain edits the information so we still perceive white.

In this particular case (and the previous famous dress example) the photo provides ambiguous information, and there are two equally valid ways to resolve the ambiguity. Some brains do the editing one way, others do it the other way, and color constancy pretty much guarantees you will do it the same way every time.

Our brains do this all the time, but cases like these hit the sweet spot of ambiguity where there's about a 50-50 split in how our brains do the editing.

Gray and teal.
However, I do notice a very thin pinstripe of white running from the toe cap to the heal that almost touches the person's thumb. If I concentrate on that, and really try to see it as white, then the gray of the shoe turns slightly pinkish in my peripheral vision.
Takes some effort, though.

I'm late to this party but I saw it both ways. I saw both color combinations. Same with the dress controversy months ago.
