Things may not have been optimal, but weren't as low as things are now. I pray that things will change, but maybe he wasn't the true problem with this franchise post Dr. Buss. (I've always been a Mitch fan so no apologies from me there for him).

Jeanie is proving to be worse than Jim, but neither are acceptable choices to run the team. This team has a terminal case of the Buss Family. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

That's the thing -- everyone thinks the grass is always greener. Give the Lakers a minute - let's see what happens. Magic really did them harm by leaving the way he did. It'll take some time to work through that.
Nobody out there is trying to help the Lakers - so all of these monday morning quarter backs are just talking for clicks and giggles. |

Makes me wonder if Jim actually had the authority to make decisions, or, if Jeannie was getting in the way letting her BFFs chime in. |

Didn't we give two of the most horrendous contracts ever under Mitch, and Jim's watch?
I disagree that things weren't as low.
We have a team that can compete for a title, with a key free agent acquisition, and additional pieces. Which is a far cry from where we were with Jim. |

Not saying necessarily that I would want Jim back. But all things considered, he hasn't done as much damage to the Lakers as Jeanie has now. Hopefully she can turn things around. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I think the stability in the organization was largely due to Mitch. If we wanted a GM who was truly mentored by Jerry West, then we should have kept Mitch. Mitch's mentorship by West far exceeds anything that Bob Myers was exposed to.
Yes, Mitch made some terrible free agency decisions, and there are some other modern front office operations things he was falling behind on. So I understand why we moved on from him. But Mitch did a lot of things well. He ran a pretty tight ship and was well-respected around the league.

Don’t forget hiring Byron Scott and Luke Walton. Both coaches killed DLO. And they sucked as coaches. |

I suppose, but on the other hand, I understood, and agreed with, the strategy. Find vets who can fill some cap space, contribute just enough without getting in the way of player development.
The execution ended up being poor, but at the time, a lot of people were happy about Deng in particular. |

I wonder if Jim could have gotten [insert FA name] here.

Or it could be that Magic is the smart one and got out because of the drama. That isn't to say Magic was making great decisions, but why would he stick around when he's taking orders from Kurt Rambis's wife? |

It seems more and more clear that LBJ was on a glide path to here. I know we want to romanticize that it was Magic that brought LBJ here. Seems that much like LBJ's M.O., he already knows what he wants to do well in advance. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
