Vogel is known for having great defensive teams

In Orlando, Vogel had the 22nd and 18th ranked defenses....the first year he is gone, Orlando has the 8th ranked defense under Clifford....pretty much same roster.

Vogel's only Top 20 Offense was his first year in Indy (2011-12).....in Orlando his offenses ranked 29th and 25th.

Which is why I said I hope they bring in an offensive assistant if he’s they guy.

Vogel’s tenure with the Lakers will end like this:

He staggers into a room with Pelinka, Jeanie, LeBron, Kidd, Linda and Kurt Rambis, and Rich Paul. Stares at each of them.

Falls over dead with seven knives in his back.

ooo, i know this one! it's of those brain teaser thingys where 6 of them tell the truth to the question and one of them lies?! or is it where 6 of them lie and one of them tells the truth?? hope frank can live long enough to solve it

This continues to be so stupid. You don't force assistant coaches on your head coach, period. It's even dumber considering we have no basketball people. It's another level of dumb when you consider Kidd's history as a backstabber. I'd question Vogel's judgement taking this position with Kidd (or Rambis) attached. If I'm Vogel, I better get a 5 year deal.

This feels like Jeannie/Pelinka/Rambis are too scared to hire Kidd as the HC, so they'll make him an assistant so they can "Blatt" Vogel halfway through the season. If you want to hire Kidd, sack up and hire him as the HC.

I see the reference to the bad Orlando Magic teams but in the same respect Vogel inherited losing Pacer teams previously coached by Rick Carlisle then Jim O'Brien and they became an eastern conference power.

Really hard to judge how a coach will fare.

He did coach the pacers well.

Why does Linda have such a hard-on for that backstabbing woman beater Kidd?

Does Vogel make it through 2019?

I think so. Does Vogel make it through All Star Break?

Poor guy.

There is questions regarding improvement on the defensive end in Orlando this year under Clifford but having a full year of Jonathan Issac and 1/2 of Bamba with Vucevic playing for his next contract surely made a big difference.

Also, FYI Kidd was essentially LeBron's babysitter for the 2008 Olympic team, as Bron was considered immature and almost got kicked off the Olympic team. So, would be another Kobe-Byron situation with Bron-Kidd, as it seems like Bron wants Kidd, along with potentially Kyrie as well. Vogel will coach and than will get fired with Kidd taking over seems too easy to predict.

I would surmise whoever is the coach will at least have 2 years. Don't believe Lakers want another PR disaster.

Kidd was an amazing player, but his decisions have always been based on $.

He’ll get Vogel pushed out, sign the fat contract, and then, get himself fired.

Kidd will plant the seeds against Vogel in a year 2 and pull a coup on coaching this team. Crazy times.

Vogel is still relatively young (46), but he feels like a retread.

At this point, I let LeBron pick.

As Wilt said (after being blamed for his coach getting fired), "maybe they should let me hire the next one." As it happened, they did let Wilt choose the next one - Bill Sharman. What did Sharman do?

As Head Coach:

- Led the Lakers to 69 wins and the NBA Championship that season and another trip the following season,

As GM

- Drafted James Edwards, Kenny Carr, Norm Nixon, Michael Cooper, MAGIC JOHNSON, Mike McGee,

- Traded for the pick that became JAMES WORTHY, BOB MCADOO,

- Signed JAMAAL WILKES, Kurt Rambis, Mitch Kupchak,

- Hired Paul Westhead, PAT RILEY,

Good thing the Lakers listened to Wilt!

Nearly every day over the past month has had a new PR disaster. Has it stopped them?

Has ANY other assistant coach received this much press and spin from the media than what Kidd’s getting right now?

We are an hour or two away from someone reporting that hiring Jason Kidd was Dr Buss' dying wish.

I kinda gave you guys the scoop two days ago. My contact thought they would announce on Friday but I guess PR wants to think over the presser.

Jeannie wants closure on the coaching search. She was pretty livid about the bad press.
