I think Unc (or should I say LeShannon Sharpe? He's a cool dude either way!) sounds worried that we might actually trade LeBron because:
1) It would look bad for LeBron.. and
2) He feels LeBron would have a better chance of winning things here than at Philly after such a trade.
It's all about LeBron's legacy for him, not the Lakers' future, lol. Also looks like they hadn't done the trade math and Unc thinks the 76ers would have to give up both Butler and Tobias in addition to Simmons to make the trade work... which would partly explain him feeling that... there'd not be much left in Philly to challenge if giving up all three of those guys. Skip is all for the trade though.

Sixers & Fultz?
What's the latest with Fultz? He kinda dropped off the map after being traded to Orlando.
The only reason LBJ would want to go to Philly is if they had some good players left. He might as well stay here if they traded that many players.

Yeah, agreed. They just hadn't done the cap-math and so were (wrongly?) operating under the assumption it would take all three when discussing the topic. I don't think it would need all three of Simmons + Butler + Harris too. Simmons and one of them would probably do. Adding both Butler and Harris would take them well past LeBron's cap-hold.

It’s nice to be holding the cards in this situation though. Either way we are fairly golden as is going into FA. Here’s hoping we use this leverage wisely. Including any potential NY trade or whomever has #1 over all. Hell, any draft position in the single digits is a win.
Think about where we were last summer before Bron.
We got the biggest trade chip in the league at worst. _________________ DEAR BASKETBALL

I want this to happen TBH. The idea of using Simmons as a small ball 5 (@Darth Los Angeles proposed it a coupla pages back) is also growing on me, so we could potentially keep Lonzo too.

It doesn't reach the criteria of a scientific poll... but it's more scientific than claiming the lurkers are going to have the opposite opinion.
You have to be careful about going down that route. You can't give importance to bad data just because it's the only data you have.
Neither way is meaningful. The poll is just a self-selected, small group of people that doesn't represent other than the self-selected, small group. The opinion about what LG as a whole thinks is just a guess.

Pipe dream.....but I would do it in a heartbeat. Trade Lebron for Simmons straight up, sign 2 max FA.......How does Simmons work with Kawhi?
One guy is on a max deal and the other one is still on his rookie contract.
Does Philly have enough cap space to absorb most of LeBron's contract?
Bring in a third team that wants Butler and Harris... like Orlando, and we get Vuc. So we net Vuc and Simmons + cap relief to go after KD or Kawhi and done time players he’ll, why not take on JJ Redick while we’re spitballin? _________________ DEAR BASKETBALL

They could absorb his contract. The problem is they would have to give up the rights to one or two of their own free agents -- Butler, Reddick or Harris.
Anyway, as far as I can make out, this isn't anything real that's happening. Just idle speculation.

We didn't get a max guy with Kobe, we didn't get a max guy between Kobe and Lebron (until Lebron) and now people are pretending that if we get rid of Lebron then max guys will come running.
People's distain for Lebron James is no excuse to be delusional.

During Kobe's prime we were over the cap.
During Kobe's post prime, he was old and injured, why would a star come when Kobe's eating up cap.
After Kobe, we were a bunch of kids. I think Jim and Mitch panicked and got us MozDeng. That year was bad for a lot of teams though due to the salary cap spike.
If we didn't have LeBron and kept say Brook and Julius and performed well, I think FAs would come. Now the key is for the kids to perform. If they don't, then you're right in that a star FA coming is less likely.

We have not had a team with so many good young players and with this cap-space since ______ (fill in the blank)? And the quality of what would be "the core" will become even better if we actually made this hypothetical trade for Simmons. I think the type of max free agents we will be wanting would still love to come here and play with Simmons (and/or Lonzo) because they'll be getting all the shots.

I have no sense what the big free agents think of Ball, Ingram, Kuz, etc. No idea if they are considered a positive, neutral or negative. That said, I doubt anyone is looking at this group and thinking they are on the verge of becoming the next big thing.

Stupid nonsensical trade idea. Wouldn't happen ever....
Also, Simmons + Lonzo would be a huge problem, for the Lakers. Essentially you lose two of your starting five guys of scoring because both of these dudes can't shoot and don't really score. No thanks.....

The benefits of a small ball 5 though is shooting.
Dray at his peak was a threat from 3. Tucker. Etc.
If Simmons can't shoot a lick, and can't shoot FTs from contact, that could be problematic. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
