If you could travel back to any year in your lifetime, what year would it be? Why?

You wouldn't even need to go back that far....just set the time machine back to the mid 90's when Apple was close to bankruptcy when you could get shares for under $10 bucks.

I'd go back in time just a few months ago to win the billion dollar powerball jackpot. Then I'd be me, right now, with a billion dollars.

1998. Tell my mom to go get a hysterectomy immediately so she doesn’t get the ovarian cancer that eventually kills her in a few years. Invest everything I have in 4Kids when Pokemon was becoming a craze, sell when the stock price hits 90 or so, then wait for the dot com bust and invest in Amazon and Apple. Continue life as normal while keeping in mind when to invest in various companies over the years to give myself a comfortable financial future so I can pick and choose what I want to do professionally without needing to stress about keeping a steady paycheck at all times. Of course, I don’t have kids so going back that far in time doesn’t affect me as it would many other people who probably don’t want to risk losing them. As a bonus, I’d get to enjoy the Kobe’s Laker championship runs all over again.

February 1996.

The following 10 years were pretty much a mess. Gladly take those back as a mulligan.

1999. Tell myself to sell my stocks and diversify and to join Keyhole instead of staying at Excite [AT] Home.

1981. A big transitional year for me. Got dumped. Broke up the band. Traveled the country for 3 months. Came back and went to work in an office on Wilshire Blvd. Met my future wife...

Come to think of it, maybe not.

We bought our house that year in the bay area. Oh, we got very lucky. The price has gone up more than double since than.

That is still higher than it was pre-bubble. Why there and not earlier? Just curious.

Yup, that was the time to buy. While prices of homes have skyrocketed wages have stagnated. If people missed that low point of the market all they can do now is overpay for a crappy house, wait for the next downturn or leave the area.

Can always go back further in time, but circumstances, age, funds all begin to factor in,

Anyway, 2011 is good enough

Age 16/17. I've had the same mundane goals since I was 15. If I were to do this I'd literally write out many pages of strategy and plans so that I'd accomplish all of my unspectacular goals instead of just some of them, not to mention do a better job of getting my current business venture off the ground right after college, or even duing college.
