Tampa DE Jason Pierre Paul suffered a potential season-ending fractured neck injury in a single-car accident last week in south Florida, league sources tell ESPN. Pierre-Paul will visit neck specialists this week to get their opinions to see if there’s hope to save this season.

Terrible news. And since they passed on Josh Allen in the draft for White, I'm not sure where their pass rush is coming from.

Jaguars' LB Smith says he won't play in 2019

Quote:
Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith announced on Instagram on Thursday that he will not play football in 2019.

Smith has led the Jaguars in tackles each of the past two seasons. He had 134 tackles last season.

not sure what is going on in his life....but pretty shocking news for the Jags.

It's not really surprising. Chancellor we figured was done, and it was reported by Schefter during the draft that Baldwin was likely going to retire. It's a shame, though, for sure.

Bucs LB Beckwith to miss second straight season

Quote:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Kendell Beckwith will miss the 2019 season after being placed on the Reserve Non-Football Injury List, and sources told ESPN on Friday that his ankle injury could be career-threatening.

bad news is starting to pile up for the Bucs! This one really does not make sense to me based on what we know....he was out all season with a broken ankle....and the next season also? Must be more complex that a standard break.

Quote:
Former Chiefs coach Gunther Cunningham dead at 72

Former Chiefs head coach and longtime NFL assistant coach Gunther Cunningham has died.

Cunningham died on Saturday after a brief illness. He was 72 years old and is survived by his wife, children and grandson among other family members and loved ones.

Cunningham was born in Germany and grew up in California before going to the University of Oregon to play football. He moved into coaching at the school in 1969 and took his first NFL job with the Colts in 1982. He worked for the Chargers and Raiders before becoming the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator in 1995.

He would stay in that job for four years before succeeding Marty Schottenheimer as the head coach for the 1999 season. Cunningham went 16-16 over two years before being fired.

Cunningham would return to Kansas City as the defensive coordinator from 2004-2008 and had the same job with the Lions from 2009-2013. He last coached as a senior assistant in Detroit from 2014-2016.

Our condolences to Cunningham’s family and loved ones on their loss.

Quote:
Police investigating why 80+ shots were fired at Frank Reich’s assistant’s home

Police in Indianapolis are investigating a Mother’s Day shooting that resulted in over 80 shots being fired at the home of Colts head coach Frank Reich’s assistant Parks Frazier.

Neither Frazier nor anyone else was injured in the shooting, which witnesses say was carried out by eight men who got out of three cars outside of the house. Per a report from WTHR, the street outside the house was littered with shell casings from five different handguns and rifles.

“About five minutes until six, I was in the kitchen trying to fix myself a little meal,” one of Frazier’s neighbors told the station. “All at once boom, boom, boom! It was very loud, and it sounded like it was tearing up my house.”

The Colts had no comment beyond saying they were glad that Frazier was not harmed. Police have not made any arrests, but they recovered a cellphone from the street that they believe belonged to one of the shooters.

I really doubt this will happen

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/05/17/rumors-fly-of-the-jets-pursuing-peyton-manning/

Quote:
Rumors fly of the Jets pursuing Peyton Manning

Jets CEO and chairman Christopher Johnson wants a “great strategic thinker” to run the football operation. He needs someone who can work with coach Adam Gase. And at the intersection possibly resides one and only one name.

Peyton Manning.

Rumors are flying within league circles that the Jets may make a run at the future Hall of Fame quarterback who has periodically been linked to NFL management possibilities. And Gase, who worked with Manning in Denver, possibly would be one of the few guys who could draw Manning back into football.

Manning wouldn’t be a traditional G.M., but Johnson has made it clear that he’s not looking for a traditional G.M.

“It’s more than a talent-evaluation guy,” Johnson said Wednesday. “I want a great manager, a communicator, who can collaborate well with the building. I’m convinced we’re going to find that person.”

Manning definitely would be that person. But it’s unknown whether Manning would be interested in being that person. If he is, it would fulfill a match more than 20 years in the making; in 1997, Manning supposedly would have left Tennessee early if he had an assurance that the Jets would make him the first overall pick in the draft.

Getting Manning also would go a long way toward removing the current stink of dysfunction enveloping the Jets, even if that stink is more than a little overblown.

Bucs 'mutually part ways' with longtime DT McCoy

Quote:
After unsuccessful attempts to trade him, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have "mutually parted ways" with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, the team said in a statement.

one of my favorites....the current belief is he ends up in Cleveland or New England. Read some reports that the Bucs may try to replace him with Ndamukong Suh.

The Bucs are about to get Suh:

Adam Schefter

Soon-to-be Buccaneers’ DT Ndamukong Suh was interested in playing for Tampa’s new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Plus, no state tax in Florida, making a deal there more attractive. So Suh expected to wind up back in Florida, as a Buc, his third team in the past three seasons.

I think him and McCoy probably produce at a similar level at this point in their careers....neither are the dominant forces they were earlier in their careers.

Yea, Suh is washed. I doubt he makes any significant impact. Happy the Colts didn't splurge to get him.

That's not true. He was the #20 D-lineman in PFF's 2018 ratings, and was classified as "good" by them. (There are two classifications above "good" for them, which are "Elite" and "High Quality.") He's still good, but he's no longer a star.

I do not think anyone needed to "splurge" to get him....only money the Bucs had was what they got from waiving McCoy, and it would not make sense to then give that to Suh.

Bucs gave Suh 9.25 Million....honestly more than I thought he would get. It will be interesting to see if McCoy gets that much.

I'm going to guess that he gets slightly less, but who knows. Suh was PFF's #20 DL last year, while McCoy was 28th. He was classified as "above average", while Suh was "good." He's supposedly visiting the Browns first.

This doesn't sound very good

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/05/28/nick-foles-out-of-otas-indefinitely-for-personal-reasons/

Quote:
Nick Foles out of OTAs indefinitely for personal reasons

The Jaguars won’t have their biggest free agent addition of the offseason at Tuesday’s organized team activity and it’s not clear when quarterback Nick Foles will be back with the team.

The team announced that Foles will not be at practice on Tuesday due to personal reasons. Head coach Doug Marrone didn’t elaborate, but told reporters that “thoughts and prayers” are with Foles and his family.

They also announced that there’s no timetable for his return to the team’s workouts, but Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports he could be back by the end of the week.

2018 sixth-rounder Tanner Lee, 2019 sixth-rounder Gardner Minshew and Alex McGough will be the quarterbacks in Jacksonville until Foles is back with the team.

Foles signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jaguars in free agency after spending the last two seasons with the Eagles. Executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin recently praised Foles for his presence and noted he’s “out there working just like everybody else is out there working.” For at least one day, that won’t be the case and the Jaguars surely hope that Foles is back on the field soon.

Ex-Bucs DT McCoy chooses to play for Panthers

Quote:
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has agreed to a contract with the Carolina Panthers, he told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowler, is getting a one-year deal worth up to $10.25 million that includes a $4 million signing bonus, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
