https://www.yahoo.com/sports/adam-silver-lebron-james-nba-playoffs-ratings-003108732.html

"With the Western Conference finals already over and the Eastern Conference finals already on Game 4, it’s getting hard to deny that the NBA is struggling in the ratings department.

Playoff ratings started out on a weak note and haven’t become much better thanks to a Milwaukee Bucks-Toronto Raptors series to decide the East. This all comes after a regular season of relatively low ratings and an All-Star Game watched by record-few fans.

Obviously, that is all of great concern for NBA commisioner Adam Silver. The NBA is widely seen as a growing league relative to its competitors, so what does it mean that fewer fans are tuning in to watch the league’s biggest stars?

Well, Silver pointed to just a single man as the cause of the ratings dip: Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Is LeBron James’ Lakers move to blame for the NBA’s low ratings?
Speaking with the “Today Show”’s Craig Melvin in an interview released Tuesday, Silver touched on a number of topics, from Zion Williamson to the WNBA to mental health. The most eyebrow-raising comments came around the 20:13 mark, when Melvin brought up the dip in playoff ratings.

Silver bluntly explained that it was hard for the NBA to keep viewers around for an entire game when the league’s most famous player is on a team that both missed the playoffs and regularly begins games after 9 p.m. ET. He also pointed to the cord-cutting trend among younger consumers:

Zion was another dagger

Warriors coasting to another NBA Finals probably has something to do with it as well. Too many people have seen the movie and know the ending.

Just remember David Stern's response when asked about his ideal NBA Finals matchup (maybe 15 years ago): "The Lakers versus the Lakers." I'm sure Silver would not say the same thing today, but there's no doubt that a Lebron-led Lakers team going deep in the playoffs would be fantastic for ratings.

He sounds serious about moving up the time for West Coast games....appears he places a higher value on tv ratings than game attendance. I wonder how West Coast team owners think about 6 PM games?

Most of the population of the US lives on the east coast. This is why a lot of major TV events are eastern time zone friendly. Sucks for people on the west coast but it is what it is.

I wonder how much it cost the NBA to have Zion go to a smaller market like New Orleans as opposed to New York or Chicago?

Not much. Lebron went to Cleveland yet the NBA's growth has been unprecedented since. Zion will be the face of the NBA just like how Lebron was. When you're a bonafide star, it doesn't matter which team you go to (unless your team fails to make the playoffs like the Lakers just did), it's going to be good for the entire league.

Really? The EC playoffs have been really good this year. Other than the Warriors/Rockets, I found the WC playoffs boring.

Mr. Silver better hope some of the stars move back to the West to give the Warriors more competition.

NBA doesn’t deserve a single dime. I’m glad they are being hurt by the move.

Us being trash hurts the ratings.

The Blazers in the first 2 rounds were really entertaining.

if Silver is serious and dedicated about this issue, there is one thing he can do...the ANTI-veto...which the NBA owes us.

SO what does the ANTI-veto do? get us AD and Kyrie and Durant. make it happen. I dont care about the salary cap or rules whatever. that's why it's an anti-veto. get us 2 legit stars, not fake ones like LBJ, and we'll be on our way to playoffs and good ratings. So DO IT SILVER!

Considering the fact I am not purchasing ad time on television for NBA games, the ratings are of little matter to me. Maybe lower ratings even brings the cost down for me as an end user.

Gonna discredit any ratings about the Raptors-Bucks series because they don't include Canada. Which is kind of a big factor.
