Quote:
Don't worry, Lakers fans -- things may be a dumpster fire right now, but you still have Kobe Bryant ... 'cause Lance Stephenson tells TMZ Sports the Black Mamba is mentoring the team!!

There's been a lot of drama around the Lake Show lately ... from failed coaching searches, Magic Johnson quitting and bombshell reports of dysfunction in the front office.

Despite all the noise, Stephenson says he's confident the Lakers are legit contenders next season ... and it might have to do with the 5-time champ hangin' around.

We asked if Bryant has taken on a mentoring role with the team during retirement ... and Stephenson said "definitely, he always comes to practice."

There have been reports that Kobe is also trying to lure Kyrie Irving to sign with the Purple & Gold this offseason ... so even in retirement, the dude's putting in work.

Rest assured, Laker Nation ... you're still in good hands.

BONUS -- we also asked Lance about teaming back up with Frank Vogel ... and he's got nothing but love for his old coach.

For the minimum, I'd have no issue with him. He shot it well last year and while the D has fallen off and at times he goes full idiot out there, he brings a certain energy that is contagious. I'd love to have him a a guy who is 3rd option and can slide between guard and forward as needed.

I was just about to post the same thing. Lance played OOC at times but there were spurts where he played great. Despite his rep, he was a model teammate last season. I'd also bring back JaVale if he was walling to take the minimum.

I hope we keep Lance. He became the fan favorite for a reason (hustle, energy, guitar). He was just never given a consistent role.

Seriously, how has there been no mention of Kobe attending practice by any reporter or player until now?

Eh... Jayson Tatum, Kuz, and Kyrie all developed a big time case of Kobeitis. Iso ball is dead in this era. Not to mention his gifting us with the gift that keeps on giving that is Rob Pelinka. Kobe needs to stay away as far as possible.

I actually agree. Love Kobe but his mentoring is not needed for this era. At least not offensively.

I think his influence has definitely been seen in those players. If he can come in and be supportive of the current philosophy of the team and support LeBron then I’m all for it. If it’s a “(bleep) LeBron, be like me you soft as Charmin (bleep)” approach then he can stay back.

You really think that Kobe is in their ear telling them to not pass the ball? He's just giving them pointers. Kobe has even said that iso ball doesn't work when commenting on the Rockets.

True

Kobe was born in 1978 and started learning Basketball like Tiger at super early age

Kobe is from the 80's and obviously can't 't figure out how to compete in this era

Tatum didn't have a bad year because of Kobe. He had a bad year because Stevens doesn't know how to coach a star like Kyrie. And Tatum's touches went down drastically compared to the year before. Don't believe me, ask Rozier.
Kuz shot attempts went up a little this year. But Kobe isn't the reason why his 3P% dropped 6%. Kobe isn't a 3PT shooting coach.
And Kyrie shot the ball well and averaged more assists than ever this past season. And Kobe shouldn't get credit for that. Just like he shouldn't get blamed for Boston underachieving.

Would be cool if we added Kobe to the coaching staff or as a practice mentor.
