Tricky issues that come up in this case. For some reason the author puts in the middle making it hard to find that the birth mother wants this white couple to adopt. Still tricky, given the mother's problems, the religious/evangelical angle, and this: "The lower-court ruling has shaken the 573 federally recognized tribes, who fear a reopening of the wound that the 1978 act was created to heal: the removal of Indian children by social workers, who would relocate them in missionary schools and with white adoptive families."

This also potentially impacts affirmative action more broadly.
