^Yeah you're making more assumptions, about McGee.... Bullock...

And McGee absolutely was a Top 5 DPOY candidate. How else do you explain 4+ blocks per game, 18 shot contests per game, with 11rpg through the first several months of the season?

Then he got sick.

You know what's funny is... Most of the time you're looking up FAs for 2019 and it's all "Top 20 or Top 30."

For the vet min, the Lakers can't even afford those guys.

This isn't 100% accurate.

Guys *I think* that would actually accept the vet min for various reasons.

Assume Seth Curry signed using the room exception.

You're assuming Bullock will take slightly more money if offered. I assume he will bet on himself to cash in next year after a deep playoff run. McGee was maybe top 5 for like the first 15 games of the season. Don't overrate him for this discussion. He will not get anything above $5 mil per.

$5mil per that the Lakers won't have.

Bullock is nearly in his prime. Why in the world would he take less money?

McGee will be in play for the vet min for us

I just told you, he's young enough to bet on himself. Players get bigger offers after a deep playoff run

Bullock and Jav can get way more than the minimum.

Jav may just do it to do it, maybe get Early Bird rights on him.

He came out of the gates really awesome. Then he got pneumonia and his season cratered. There will be teams willing to pay him 3-4m/year easily.

However, he may just enjoy living in LA, who knows.

Butler is 30 by training camp. Numbers on downwards trajectory. Not a great 3 pt shooter. I'm not feeling it, AD/Bron/Butler feels similar to Joel/Simmons/Butler, but Bron shoots way more than Simmons. Butler will have career lows, and trade value further diminishing should we want to move him.

Mitch got torched when he was here for playing by the rules. For not knowing ANYTHING about free agents desired locations before free agency opened.
If Rob doesn't know who wants to come here or not before free agency starts. And he goes to Kyrie or Butler after already striking out somewhere else. Those two are so prideful. It's gonna make signing them that much more difficult. Both guys will want to feel like they were Plan A for wherever they go.

I think THIS is what McGee was referring to about the FA difficulties.

Definitely

It was when Jimbo and Mitch were at the helm.

West, Jim, Mitch, Magic. We will see with Pelinka. The one FA we got, Lebron, wasn’t one who lobbied to come here.

Bullock already said he wanted to go back to Detroit.

Maybe we could get him if we overpaid... but doubtful if we gave him a crummy offer.

It's telling that most of the guys who want the 3 star plan... fill their rosters with players that would be extremely optimistic to sign.

If we get AD/LBJ/Butler... we need to resign ourselves to the reality that Caruso would need to blossom immediately... Mo and Bonga would need to both progress... and we'd have to get very lucky with a fluke free agent signing that panned out... like DRose getting healthy again.

Filling the roster with names we would be lucky to sign is only fooling yourself.

Are three good cheap signings with 40% 3 pt shooters possible?

I suppose... but I'm guessing the odds are about the same as us signing Kawhi at this point.

If you want the three superstar plan... at least construct a realistic roster and hope for the best.

AD/LBJ/Butler would be very good next year. All of them would be extremely motivated and playing with a chip on their shoulders.

The questions would be more can they stay healthy on short rotations?... is it sustainable due to age? Can LBJ and Jimmy the two alphas coexist if anything goes wrong?

I've been a firm young core supporter... but I can't deny that team could compete.

For me though it's all about sustainability and I think one of those factors would come back and haunt us.

The Lakers are not in a position to depend on a player signing.
The best they can do is make offers and hope for an acceptance.

Would probably be smart to concentrate on players on there is a realistic
chance of signing. Butler and Irving are possible.
Kemba and Nikola should also be given serious consideration.

The age is a fair concern. Just want to say he doesn't have the typical mileage of a 30 year old who makes the playoffs year after year after year. Because he didn't get into the league till age 22. And even his rookie year. He played 8 minutes and 42 games.
His window aligns with Lebron's very well. With Jimmy and Bron on the roster. Playoffs are a lock. Plus his style fits like a glove with what Vogel and Hollins like to do defensively.

Your thoughts on Vince Carter for next year? I really just want an Air Canada Laker jersey.

To be fair, a lot of players use bad teams for leverage, right now we are a up and coming team and maybe he likes the idea of playing for LeBron and potentially AD.

That unit will see a zone defense every minute they are on the floor.

You guys have to stop with this mileage analogy.

Do you think someone like Kobe who was a gym rat and worked out hours in his free time and off season is going to suddenly fall apart because of more mileage? His injury was a fluke... nothing more.

Do you think the lazy guy who plays video games all summer is improving his mileage?

Players need to listen to their body... stop playing when they have an injury that might get aggravated... but otherwise it's a crap shoot when their body's going to give out... unless they have some chronic preexisting degenerative condition.

Soccer players run double the amount of basketball players... if the mileage theory was correct they would all be done at 30 years old.

It's true they retire earlier than basketball players but that's mostly because their play relies on pace more than size and they can't fall back on size when they get older.

I can explain the blocks. He'd get beaten on his contain/drop coverage and then get a make-up block. The majority of the time he'd just get beat with no block.

Strange. I don't recall seeing a zone defense every minute last year with a lineup of:

Lonzo
BI
Lebron
Kuzma
McGee

Which lineup do you think has better outside shooting? Size, arent zone defenses weak?
