Do you think someone like Kobe who was a gym rat and worked out hours in his free time and off season is going to suddenly fall apart because of more mileage? His injury was a fluke... nothing more.

Do you think the lazy guy who plays video games all summer is improving his mileage?

Players need to listen to their body... stop playing when they have an injury that might get aggravated... but otherwise it's a crap shoot when their body's going to give out... unless they have some chronic preexisting degenerative condition.

Soccer players run double the amount of basketball players... if the mileage theory was correct they would all be done at 30 years old.

It's true they retire earlier than basketball players but that's mostly because their play relies on pace more than size and they can't fall back on size when they get older.

The top soccer guys are pretty much done at 30. Some manage to get to 32 before heading to the MLS.

Ronaldo is 34 and just had a hat trick this week.

Messi is 31...

Giggs played until around 40

Suarez is 32.

Robben is finally leaving Bayern at 35.

It's about the same as basketball... it's just they have a huge field and can't slow down and play a half court style as they get older.

prays for jimmy

yes, yes and yes
better than Kyrie
Kyrie has more fame but only been all nba 2x in career as a former #1 pick
Jimmy has 2 all nbas, and 4 all defense. He fills a need @ SG and can be clutch at times.

Sign Jimmy, DAJ, keep everyone (ZO, Ingram, Hart and Kuz will shoot better with a better coaching and schemes), add veterans.

Zo
Jimmy
Ingram
Lebron
Sign DAJ or McGee

My point still stands that people run and train for ultra marathons without ill effects running at sub 5 minute mile paces.

It's true there isn't the same lateral or up and down motion... but it's still very punishing.

Humans aren't like automobiles built to fall apart at 100,000 miles so you have to buy a new one.

Some can play a long time... some can't. I think it's more a matter of good training techniques and respecting injuries.

Sure if an orthopedist diagnosed a degenerative condition in a particular player... then you need to respect it.

But if it were a mileage thing then you could rest a player for five years in their twenties and then they'd be able to play longer in their thirties.

The body just breaks down whenever your particular genetic program tells it too.

It's why Gabrielle Union still looks like she's thirty years old at 46... and other women need craploads of botox when they are in their thirties.

I only watched Maldini at the World Cup... Too bad they didn't have internet streaming back then.

But Totti just retired at 40 and Pirlo was like 36 when he left for MLS

I'm of the mindset that it's more difficult to obtain higher caliber players than a supporting cast.

What really hurt the team's depth is not being able to have a full MLE (as opposed to having a room exception). With a full MLE, could get much better supporting players.

NYk couldn't do it when they traded for Carmelo Anthony.

Pelicans couldn't do it around AD/Jrue. They added Cousins and it didn't work.

If the consensus is that AD would require giving up Lonzo, BI, and #4 then we should find a way to get an extra rotation piece in that deal, possibly by including Mo and Bonga and/or involving a third team. You'd fill out the 8-man rotation with Caruso and the room exception. That's still thin but at least solid. I think between ring chasers, Lebron stans, and deadline buy-outs you can fill out the roster.

I'm onboard for Jimmy Butler, but if we're strapping ourselves to 34-35yo LeBron and 30yo Jimmy Butler then we'd better be holding onto our young guys (Zo, BI, Kuzma, #4 pick) unless we can get a star younger player in return.

We need them not only for depth, but just so that other guys are rising to fill the shoes of LeBron/Butler as those two inevitably regress.

Don’t look at it that way.

Think of Lebron, AD and Butler in the next 4 years together. Doesn’t matter how much they decline AD can take them to the finals by himself. AD never had a decent wing with him, never. Lebron is still 28-8-8........and butler is a good 3rd option.

Once that run is over we take 1-2 years to clear the books and then rebuild by creating another super team young players are for bad teams like the suns who have booker a guy who scored 70 but they never win we want proven stars who can play with the best of them.

I say keep 1-2 of them but thats it, no more losing.

Kind of like he did for New Orleans? I'd absolutely prefer to sign a player like Kawhi, Kyrie or Butler and keep our young pieces. A lot of posters here find it hard to believe, but, they're going to improve.

LeBron, AD & McGee shouldn't be in the same starting lineup.

Could the Warrioirs win it all with just Curry, Thompson and KD? Supporting cast and bench players are undervalued

I don't think playing 2 bigs simultaneously will work.

If AD is here, he's the 5. LeBron is the 4/3.

Are we banking on this being the year Lebron plays the 4?
It didnt happen much last year, that's for sure.
And AD is going all in on being the 5?
What we want, and what the players want seem to not add up
