So Boston has stated they will pursue Davis even if Irving leaves...

Let's dissect how that could play out..

Pelicans are gonna want some young decent talent and are surely going to want Tatum, Smart & Brown, + a first round pick, as that matches up pretty much with AD's salary next season.

Losing Irving, Smart, Tatum & Brown are gonna hurt their depth, especially if the also lose unrestricted FA Morris as well.

There is no way in heck that Horford is going to opt out of $30mil for next season and he happens to play the same position as AD.

And Hayward is set to make $32 &$34 mil the next two seasons.

That means Bostons Big three are AD, a 34 yo Horford and Hayward (who averaged 11.5ppg) - That's gonna be good enough for 5th or 6th in the East and another early playoffs exit.

So if Boston whiffs next season with AD, surprise - he can leave!

And when/if he leaves and HorFords contract expires, the Celtics could drop OUT of the playoffs two seasons from now - something that would make me EXTREMELY happy!

If the Lakers miss out on AD, they should still do the Beal trade, and since they will probably miss out on Durant, Kawhi, Kemba, and Butler anyway, sign some vets for one year like they did (Cousins, Rondo, McGee, etc) and be poised to again have a max slot after next season to sign AD...! Which would also make me EXTREMELY happy!
