That's what I'm getting at. It's looking like Lonzo + BI are needed to reach the 21m, but if we could replace one of them with Kuz/Hart + filler, then round out the roster with good role players, that would be a major win.

Had a max slot to spend on “good role players” last off-season and ended up with the social media meme squad.

Pretty clear who we need to keep. Not gonna happen because other teams know that too.

I could not disagree more. Anthony Davis who has averaged over 25 Points a game after his rookie/sophomore season needs Lonzo for his offense? Even more so, Ball getting guys easy shots is mostly theory, he does not have a consistent resume at the NBA level getting guys easy shots in the half court. Lonzo going to help AD on defense? It would be a step down from what he is use to with Jrue's perimeter defense.

Thanks Bard, last question..

What if we don't think we're getting a max, so we end up sending out 16-18 mil instead of 21? Does it have to be 21 no matter what? Or can we just subtract the difference from our space?

They could use cap space provided the trade doesn't put them much above the salary cap.

86. How do simultaneous trades work? How much salary can a team take back in a simultaneous trade?

Quote:

As described in question number 84, a team below the cap may disregard salaries when making trades, as long as the team finishes no more than $100,000 above the cap as the result of a trade. However, a team below the cap can choose to use the trade rules for teams above the cap if it works to the team's advantage. For example, if a team is $1 million below the cap, then by using the trade rules for teams below the cap it can trade an $8 million player for a player making up to $9.1 million. By using the rules in place for teams above the cap, the team could trade the $8 million player for a player making up to $13 million.

AD definitely doesn't need Lonzo (or anyone else) to generate Lonzo, but Lonzo's proven himself as a guy who can get everyone easy shots. He had McGee looking like Capela and was finding Kuz, Hart, Lance and everyone else for open 3's, not to mention he's masterful initiating the break. Someone like that doesn't exactly grow on trees.

Kuz being safe gotta lot of people upset for some reason lol.

People opposed to the trade have said that they don't mind the trade, they just don't wanna trade away everyone. Now that word is out that we might be able to keep a few players then those people have pivoted to having a problem with which players we're keeping.

Some here just really don't want this trade and they're losing their minds about it.

Spot on.

Not one bit, what's with you guys and making (bleep) up.

We're upset because Ingram and Lonzo> Kuzma.

In terms of both being a player and being a prospect. Kuzma isn't as good as the other two, we want the better players. Y'all live in fantasy land

So does the trading partner who's offering you a MUCH better player. I like both BI and Zo and would hate to trade them, but it's the price of doing business.

The Pelicans really aren't offering anything. They're trying to salvage value on an asset they would otherwise lose for nothing. The Lakers are the ones doing them a favor, not the other way around.

By that logic, every trade should highly favor the one receiving the better player. You never get fair value for the star, but fleecing the other party is a different story.

That is roughly $3.5 million over a $109 million salary cap.

Obviously we will be over the cap once the dust settle's, but isn't that the point of waiting to execute the trade until we actually sign a 30% guy? If we are just at/under the cap after signing a max, are we still allowed to send out the 21m to acquire AD putting us over the cap?

Edit: Sorry, just saw your explanation above that clears it up.

I think you can sign your own free agents and go over the cap.....cant you
so kcp, rondo, lance and macgee can be resigned at a descent rate

Nope. We only get the cap space if we renounce those guys and lose our rights to them.

then how does golden state have a $146000 budget....they can sign their own free agents. You have to pay a luxury tax but thats how that comes into play.

You shifted what I said.

I said AD needs a guard who can help him get easy shots. Lonzo does that.

I said that because neither Ingram nor Kuzma do it better.

I was arguing for pairing AD and Lonzo. You took what I said and went way left.

Yea, Griffin is high on Lonzo going by his comments when he was working as a TV analyst.

Not at all surprised the deal is still not done despite the Ingram, Ball and 4 offer. Only in Laker land does anyone think Ingram and Ball are players worth keeping over AD. You are not getting equal value here if you are the Pels. Plus you know AD will stay in LA longterm. AD would be a starter and an all star on a contender as the teams second best player maybe third best. Ball and Ingram are years away from being that player and there is a better chance they will never even be an all star.

LA is going to have to push for this. We will see if they can get this done. It is nice to hear that ADs agent is talking to Boston and telling them that AD will not stay there longterm.

The one regret is that we'll never see that ideal roster built to play super up tempo and attack teams in transition with speed and shooting, catering to Bron and Zo's strengths.

That’s my line of thinking also but things have to go in order for that to happen. You have to sign Kawhi first then execute the trade after. In order to do the trade 4 , Ingram and Ball most likely have to be included. People are complaining it’s to much but sending out the extra asset allows you to sign Kawhi instead of player x. That’s the benefit of the trade. I know some have reservations about the trade but trading for AD signing Kawhi and keeping Kuz and Hart is a win everyday in my book

Yes, but it really isn't that simple.

If you are agreeing to the trade before the draft, you have two options:

1) You construct a trade that is legal to be executed as an over the salary cap team after you sign a max.

or

2) You construct at trade that can be executed as an under the salary cap team and doesn't send out $21.5m.

Would you rather trade Ball, Ingram and #4 and be able to sign a max FA or maybe the trade is Ingram, #4 and a future 1st and you can't sign another Max FA?

When people argue against common sense, I've learned to ignore them. Nothing good can come from it.

AD is a finisher, not a creator. He's at his best with a guard/player who feeds him, just like you said. Common sense.

Clippers have better youth who proved it in the playoffs, plus some nice ending contracts. They lack draft picks.

I'd much rather have Lonzo or Kuzma play with LeBron and AD than Ingram but that's just me

I also think some are underrating Kuzma due to the optimism surrounding Ingram's potential. It's already proven that Kuzma fits better with LeBron. He shot a bad % from 3 last season but that wasn't the case his rookie year. Nearly 37% on good volume.. he's working with lethal shooter and has a good quick release.

There's hope that he can become the spot up shooter at the 4 that this team would need with LeBron and AD. Imo it's unlikely that Ingram will ever be a good 3pt shooter with his mechanics. I'm noticing many around here saying Ingram is better than Kuzma currently, I don't agree with that. Sure his ceiling might be higher but at a risk imo. I don't believe Ingram would be able to prove being worth his extension price playing alongside those guys.

So basically what I'm getting at is that being left with Kuzma isn't the end of the world like some might think.

I don't want the trade to go through.. I'd rather keep our young guys..

But this narrative on LG is laughable..

AD can get his own with or without help.

Ball has trouble creating for himself, but AD needs him? lol
