I'm glad we got AD but If Magic had made this trade people would have threw a conniption fit and torn down his statue in front of staples. |

Glad we got AD but, damn, those picks and swaps were vicious. Wow.
Hope we can manage to get some assets back with cash at some point. |

It will come back to haunt us. LBJ just had a big time injury last year and AD isn't the healthiest guy. If we get 1-2 chips out of it, of course it's worth it. |

Yeah, this deal is incomplete to me still to make me go on either side of the fence.. If they can land Kawhi, Butler or even Klay (no chance he's leaving but i'd def. take him haha) then it's a home run and i'm fine with what they traded, slightly less with Butler but I think he could end up being a great win now fit as well.
I'd much rather just try and sign some solid role players instead of Kemba though for sure. Irving I could go either way with.
If Rob somehow ends the off season grabbing Kawhi he desrves executive of the year already imo.. No matter what happens I would do that trade and signing without a second thought. Anyone else and it's one of those wait and see type things but regardless at least it's starting to get exciting and positive in Laker land again which is a massive breathe of fresh air after the last few years especially. We should be able to fill out the roster with solid players looking for rings not to mention we will be a top destination for any bought out players as well. |

I believe that Zubac is a restricted free agent this summer; it would have been difficult to include him in this deal. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

I have to imagine a more seasoned GM gets that deal done without all the pick swaps/unprotected picks...Especially when we was bidding against our self _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Lots of folks making this argument, but like most of the early conclusions, it is just as flawed.
It basically assumes we dont do anything this free agency period. Zero. Other than repeat what we did last year: aka sign 1 year deals as filler or whatever is needed to keep a max space open for 2020. Most would say that is throwing away another year of LBJ.
It also assumes the AD situation for the next 12 months remains in the Lakers favor or is otherwise not fluid. We have no idea what can happen. How do we know that some other team not on the radar deals for him and he ends up liking it there? What if the Knicks do something that makes them appealing, or somehow figure out some move with another team that lands them AD during the season?
Ifs, buts, candies and nuts are the scenarios I can present. As is the one presented in the argument you provide - "what IF he decided to sign next year and us not trade anything..." Or "he WOULD have signed next year..." which is even more flawed (it assumes something we do not know to be true).
A window has opened for the Lakers to have a tremendous season now, so they jumped through it by trading potential and speculation for the one thing the Lakers absolutely, positively, can control: His 2019-2020 season. |

I truly believe the Lakers were bidding against the deadline for when FA opens. With AD and LBJ, they look hell of a lot more attractive and thus far most media talking heads are yapping how appealing those two together are. In one stroke, the disaster since February of this year has been surpassed by something else: "That's all true, but they have Lebron and AD." They will look extremely appealing to free agents, skilled vets willing to take paycuts to ring chase, and otherwise be more attractive.
We will honestly never know if it could have been done for less. What I do know is if the Lakers did not make this deal and he went elsewhere (and never ended up here) and what it would have taken leaked, I think it would have blown up in their face with the media. The negative spin on them NOT making this deal is so much easier to go with and create a narrative. |

Talk about crappy trade literally threw any leverage down the drain, serious over pay. You never start a negotiation you won't walk away from. Griffin knew we wouldn't walk away and bent Rob over. Ugh. _________________ 11/9/12 the day the brown was flushed down!!!!!!

While I doubt it happens, I can rationalize it from the perspective of Kawai + AD being the big punch as LBJ walks away (they would be both early 30's and still have lots of game left). |

Magic throwing the entire roster at them in Feb created a higher entry point.
Maybe we paid a lot but we got a lot. |

At the signing of KCP, he said signing KCP was like bread falling from the sky.
I wonder what he will say about AD being a Laker... |

I hope he completes this set and get us KL and finally give him props around here. So many bashers, but I feel he was the guy that setup and organize us out of the mess 3 seasons ago. I will give magic props for closing LBJ, but getting us out of the cap disaster and flexibility goes to hard working Pelinka. |

If the primary job requirement of a GM is to bring a team to contention, he's close to fulfilling his role. But if we're going by the Laker standard, anything less than a championship on a team that has Lebron and AD is a major failure. They aren't ordinary superstars. They are megastars.
The move could just as easily backfire if one of Lebron or AD go down. The concern with Lebron will be his durability at 35-36 years of age. A third scoring option almost feels mandatory in today's era, especially with the rate of injuries. |
