I'm not a fan of Pope either, but if he and Rich Paul are willing to do that, I'd take him back and run him off the bench at backup SG and occasional SF hoping for bench offense (with Kuzma and Gibson).
Point is: Unless they get Leonard, they can bring back both Bullock and Pope under the right circumstances. |
U know Klutch gonna get him the mid level not the min. Rondo the one offered min if he wanna come back (which he should) |
This summer we will only have the room exception to offer, not the full mid-level exception. Next summer we will have the mid-level, as an over-the-cap team.
As for Rondo, sadly, I think they probably would bring him back for the minimum if he would take it, and anything that may take away from playing time for Caruso is not a good thing. Caruso is much better at basketball than Rondo is. |

Butler (and obviously Kawhi) ahead of anyone else, if we go for a max. Otherwise split the deal and get a deeper roster. |
Teague opted in to the final year of his deal with Minnesota, and is on their books for $19MM for the coming season. Who knows, maybe he'll be an eventual buyout candidate during the season. |

All our current role players will be gone if a 3rd max arrives. |

As JP pointed out, you can renounce players and still later re-sign them to vet min deals or to the room exception. Essentially, as long as you don't use cap space to sign them, vet min deals and the room exception don't count against your cap space. |

How much would it take to get the Bucks to not match Brogdon? Would it be worth it?
Might not be bad, those 50/40/90 percentages are tempting
Feel like I'm spitballing a lot but it's very intriguing how this team is going to be made up haha |

Fair enough, I checked the free agent tracker but haven't looked into it further than that - it tends to lag on those stories a bit. _________________ "I got Wheaties!" |

(2) Kemba Walker will cost 30 million. How much will Derrick Rose cost? 10-15 mill? Is Walker twice as good as Rose right now?
If Leonard doesn't come, isn't Rose a far more cost effective signing than Kemba Walker?
Think about it: For the money you spend on just Walker, you could have both Rose and Reddick. |
Think about after Lebron contract ends. Kemba is the player that will keep us competitive along with Davis. So I see your point but I’m planning for the future as well. I think Drose will be willing to ring chase. Sign Kemba if you can and get rose as a backup for the room. |
Rose just had a phenomenal year. He isn't coming to the Lakers to play 15 minutes a game as a backup to Walker. He'd rather stay in Minnesota and play big minutes than to be relegated to a bit player.
Walker is damn-near thirty, by the way. Rose is 31. You are vastly overstating Walker's competitive future in comparison to Rose's.
You aren't really grasping the improvements that can be made to this roster by saving 20 mill per in signing Rose instead of Walker.
That extra 20 mill could literally be the difference in winning a ring, especially when you factor in injuries. |
Rose had a great year and he could see mins at SG too. Kemba is an star who can put up 50 on a hot night. I’m not investing 10 mill in Rose who has finally had a healthy season.

So we dont have the cap space for a 32M max after this trade anymore. Or we still have a chance before its officialy done? Still 2 weeks until free agency... _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

Brogdon is a 50-40-90 guy perfect to play alongside a dominant ball-handler/scorer (he did it with Giannis). He doesn’t need the ball necessarily, or to be a primary scorer to make a solid impact on the game. And as an added bonus, we weaken Vegas’s 2nd odds on favorite to win it all by stealing a piece of their talented core.
If MIL maxes Middleton like I would expect them to, they wouldn’t even have enough for a Kyrie or Kemba to fill in anyway, since their payroll is already committed to >$66M (leaving ~$43M cap space) before re-signing either Middleton, Brogdon, and fill-ins. So they’re likely to lose one (Brogdon likely the odd man out unless MIL ponies up to match) anyway—why not to us?
Next, sign Rodney Hood, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Jeff Green, Ed Davis to minimum deals and the room exception.
Brogdon (20)/Caruso (1)/Bonga (1.6)
Hood (3.5)/Ellington (2.3)
James (37.4)/Bullock (4.5)/J. Green (2.3)
Davis (27.1)/Kuzma (2)/Deng ($5M )
McGee (2.3)/E. Davis (room)/J. Williams (two-way)
= $109M |
Sorry dude. They'll match that, no doubt about it.
You'll have to offer Brogdon 25 mill or more to give Milwaukee real pause. |
Probably, but my point would be to show a little gamesmanship by forcing their hand by offering for either Middleton or Brogdon, weakening our toughest competition according to the sportsbooks. |
I hear you, but the better strategy is to do what Pat Ripley did in Miami.
He signed Elton Brand to a huge offer sheet many moons ago, and the Clippers matched. Right after they matched Brand he swooped on Odom who was also free agent with the Clippers, and because they were hamstrung with Brand's huge deal, they had to let Odom walk.
The Lakers could offer Brogdon a huge, bloated offer sheet, and if they match, sign Middleton who they won't be able to afford, or if Milwaukee doesn't match the offer for Brigdon, simply walk away with Brogdon. |

Realistic but dream scenario:
Sign Kawhi to the max
Sign George Hill to the Room exception, assuming he is let go from his team option. Secondary options: Darren Collison, Pat Beverly, Seth Curry
Sign the following for the vet min: Ariza, Iman Shumpert, McGee, Rondo, Muscala, Caruso
C - Davis | McGee | Muscala
F - Kuzma | Wagner
F - Lebron | Ariza | Bonga
G - Kawhi | Shumpert
G - Hill | Rondo | Caruso |

[Sam Amick] Just days before the Davis deal was done, a source close to James indicated some optimism that – Nets noise be darned – Irving was still in play for the Lakers. |

In that case, we need to really not waive his cap hold. Would LOVE to have him with a Lebron/AD core and even more with a 3rd star. |

For all the media and fan dreaming of Kawhi, Kyrie, and Kemba, I’m still scared that Rich Paul is going to strong-arm us into signing KCP to a long-term max deal and eat up our remaining cap space.
Until this deal for AD is done, and KCP IS GONE, I’m still going to be fearing a D12/ Nash level backfire. |

There’s no way we sign KCP to a max deal. He wants AD to get a chip IMO. |

I don't think so unless they take a discount or we waive other players, like bonga. also depends on the trade kicker and when the trade is officially made _________________ Kobe |
