IMO unless the third max player is Kawhi, we’re better off signing a few quality role players instead. Especially if the third max is going to be someone like Kemba.

Given the names that have been suggested, 3rd star.

The effective output of three 8-10 mil guys is probably not far off from the effective output from guys you can get using the vet min. Just depends on the type of player.

I said 3rd max because there was no point giving up who we did and saving Kuzma if we weren't going for the third max.

Young LeBron's never won a Championship without a 3rd all-star.

I don't expect old LeBron to be able to.

But we don't have anywhere near enough to sign a 3rd max unless we wait all the way till august to do the trade. Rather than July 6th.

Depth. Championship teams have depth and chemistry to survive the season and deep playoff runs.

Those 5,6,7,8 guys provide the support needed. Especially when both Davis and James need to keep mpg down and take nights off.

In this case, quality counts. Lakers need a quality impactful bench much more then they need a 3rd All Star with a bench comprised of g- leaguers and marginal vet mins.

Depends on the 3rd star

If we could get Kawhi, then star

But someone like Kemba isn't worth it for me. We need defense, shooting, and hustle to compliment Lebron and AD. Veterans would be awesome.

Get Kawhi or Kyrie. If we can't do that, look for value signings to fill out our depth.

Depth for when Lebron misses a dozen games and AD misses 20.

In what sense is it a luxury? I thought we're trying to win a chip.

If we get Kyrie or Kawhi, Ariza will come here for the vet min, I also like Gerald Green as a floor spacer on the cheap.

I think that's possible going either route. We are in a good position

Oh ok. I thought you meant we don't need either.

adding a lot of talent to two top tier players, is a luxury.

Raps just won with 1 top tier guy, and 4 inconsistent guys.

1 top tier star who is on the wrong side of his prime and had his first major injury.

1 top tier star who is injury prone and has had trouble leading his team to contention.

It is not a luxury.

That is the fear, signing the walking dead. Guys are cheap because they are done and not wanted. Let’s shoot for guys closer to their primes.

that's the negative pov.... if you expect them to stay healthy, it's something of a luxury.

1) They came out of the Eastern Conference.
2) They're the exception, not the rule.
3) They had Kawhi. We have a long in the tooth Bron. Who has a history of only winning 1 way (with 2 other all stars), even when he was in his physical prime.

Order of preference:

Kawhi
Kyrie
Depth (32.5m worth of FAs)
Butler
Depth (27.8m worth of FAs)
Kemba

Not to be that guy, but how much would DLO cost? If Kyrie goes to the Nets, could be man him for 17-20 M and still have some space left over?

There has to be some GM out there who is dumb enough to max him, so I doubt we get him for less than the max.

We still need shooters and wing defenders.

I'd like to keep Javale if possible; we should sign Jemerrio Jones because he rebounds and defends.

I don't know if we can get consistent shooters like a Seth Curry; if not, then keep Bullock.

Depth is going to be a real problem unless Bonga/Wagner can play.

That said, it's a no-brainer to sign Kawhi or Kyrie if they're available.

Kawhi, maybe Kyrie. Butler if he shot a little better at 3 and/or a little younger. Kemba if he was a little better defender. Otherwise just use the cap space in a smart team building way IE get 3 and D players.
