But let's wait to give him a grade when he fills out the roster. |
3 all-stars A+ for me. |
Well, not all all-stars are created equal.
He gets a much higher grade for landing Kawhi than Russell. |

Contrast bias is it called?
Rob isn't a GREAT GM yet... it's just that even he, now, is so much better than our previous, previous PoBO (Jimbo).
But it's more an indication of just how bad Jimbo was. Not how good Rob is, as that relies on results around the PnG.
I mean Jimbo put together a great team on paper too. But it resulted in 2 stretchers, a billboard and a Mozdeng. _________________ KOBE!!! |

As far as why didn't they go public? Ever since Magic left, the Lakers have been tight lipped and that is now obviously their MO. Perhaps by showing they are tight lipped long term, they will show that the media is unreliable and out of control.
Look guys, the media goes bonkers with the Lakers drama since Shaq and Kobe. Perhaps the Lakers want to take control now and minimize this. |
I just disagree that the media is out to get the Lakers. I can see certain small market owners trying to get us or collude but I see no reason why ESPN should try to destroy their big story next season.
Stephen A and Max are constantly talking about the Knicks and Lakers even though we've both been terrible teams... Same with Skip and Shannon... Jalen and Jacoby... you can't turn on a sports talk show without hearing about the Lakers.
Economically there is no reason for them to want a crippled Lakers franchise, especially with the power void caused by the Warriors injuries and LBJ's exodus from Cleveland so although I agree with you that it's possible Rob knows what he's doing... I don't see the angle why reporters would be out to get the Lakers. |
I didn't mean to imply the media is out to get the Lakers. What I mean by drama is it friggin sells man. It's amazing how much news coverage has been made out of seemingly nothing.
Pelicans will not trade AD to the Lakers by any means.
Lakers don't have anything the Pelicans want.
Lakers gave up an incredible haul (which one is it?)
Lakers have no shot of cap space.
Lakers messed it up.
Lakers have no chance of meeting Kawhi.
Lakers have a meeting with Kawhi.
It's just not the Lakers, the media likes to build someone up and then tear them down. The news cycle is crazy and generating a ton of revenue. The Lakers are the largest market with the Knicks not being relevant so the media is capitalizing.
Out to get the Lakers? Possibly, at least some media with an East Coast bias. Not all of them.
Using the Lakers to create stories, clicks equals revenue. Yes. |

He gets an Incomplete grade for now until we see how he navigates this free agency. As long as he doesn’t squander the cap on garbage players on multi year deals (hello Mozgov/Deng), then yes he has performed amazingly this offseason.
If we get Kawhi or another star, then filling out the rest of the roster will more than likely sort itself out. Pelinka will be getting calls from veterans left and right to join the team.
But if we strike out on the stars, we can still put together a great supporting cast around Bron/AD.
My feeling is that we must know a max guy or a couple max guys are interested in signing otherwise I doubt AD would’ve already agreed to waive his kicker. So if that happens then Pelinka achieved everything he (and Magic originally) committed to doing when he was brought on as GM and he deserves all the praise. _________________ |

Rob is amazing. He's got nothing but hate from BSPN and a lot here as well.
He helped bring in Lebron.
He got AD.
He cleared space for another max guy.
He's letting Lebron and Rich Paul recruit for him.
Exec of the year. Hands down. |

I think a lot of what made this road so bumpy was not really knowing who was actually in charge. Jeannie/Rob/Magic was a classic case of 'too many cooks in the kitchen.' PBO, GM...those positions overlap too much and inevitably they would be fighting for Mommy's attention. Somebody was gonna get shorted and it ended up being Magic. Then Magic 'some-say-not-so-gracefully' stepped aside, and now the chain of command is much clearer. _________________ So glad we gave you your flowers while you were here, Kobe. |

One of Kawhi, Kyrie, Jimmy, DLo needs to sign first.
Even then it still was done ass backwards. |
Not really. Can't blame him for not wanting to take the chance of losing AD ala, PG, KL fashion. |

My take on the OP question - there's still doubt about Rob, but far less certainty that he sucks. |

Good job, Rob!!
Now let's make it a great job by landing Kawhi/Kyrie and/or filling out that roster with a nice, deep title-winning squad.
It ain't over until the fat lady sings, hopefully thrice... |

No he sucks.
All we got is a 40 year old Lebron, a injury prone A.D on a 1 year rental and everybody is gonna sign with the Clippers. We are doomed.
just kidding. I smell at least two championships within the next 3 years. I also see three straight final appearances. _________________ SCHROEDER/CARUSO/COOK

Pelinka is about to cement himself as one of the biggest geniuses of NBA history when he gets a 3rd star to join this team he already built. He's Kobe. _________________ I love my Lakies |

Pelinka made three trades after Magic's departure, for AD, THT, and cap space respectively.Telling from what he did, his style is to mortgage the future for potential present gains. The last time the Lakers did this, for Steve Nash, the result was not pretty. |
