Jerry made all the right moves to put themselves in a position to get Kawhi and PG. He did the same with Shaq and Kobe. Clippers are legit competition now with a competent owner and Jeanie doesn't have a clue. |

people overplaying this Jerry West angle because it's an easy narrative
the reality is this was a Kawhi Leonard decision. NBA is player driven, Kawhi went to Clippers cause he did NOT want to play with Lebron. Period. and he wanted to come home. Given that, Kawhi basically lobbed the ball up for the Clippers FO to finish.
So no I don't think KL signs here even if we had West, assuming Lebron was still on the roster. But I do think maybe we pivot from KL earlier cause West would been savvy to what was transpiring

Woj said Kawhi would be a Laker today had the Clips been unable to get PG. And the reason they got it done was because Jerry West traded Griffin and Harris to stockpile all those #1s. The man is a GENIUS. |

Would West (or Frank) not have pursued Lebron? That seems to be the main factor in why he chose the Clippers. It's a fresh canvas he can command to his will. No Team Klutch there to put him in his place. |

I don't believe that for one second - Kawhi was never going to be a Laker.
How much time do you think Kawhi was going to give the Clippers to make a deal for another star before he says "time's up. I'm going to the Lakers?"
First the narrative in the media was Kawhi will make a decision either on the 3rd or 4th. Clips don't have a 2nd star yet? Ok, KL will wait.
Then it was he will decide on Friday. Clips don't have a 2nd star yet? Ok, KL will still wait.
Finally, LAC makes a deal and that's it. KL chooses them.
It was never going to be the Lakers. He would have waited for as long as it took if it meant he didn't have to come play with us. |

Kawhi was 100% coming to LA.
He did not want to join a Lebron/Klutch team.
The clippers jumped on this and were in touch with him all season and it didn’t matter what Toronto did.
Keep an eye on Woj, I could see him joining the Clippers organization similar to Lee Jenkins. |

Kawhi demanded a trade to the Lakers. Let's not revise history. |

And if a trade doesn't happen? It takes two teams to make a trade. It is not like Clippers were guranteed to have another star player |

KL is a Clipper because he did not want to be a Laker.
Probably didn't matter if West was there or not, as long as PG or another star was. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns". |

Then he goes back to Toronto.
Think about it. He didn't have any interest in even meeting with our "GM." That should have been the first red flag.
Did he meet with Jeanie? We don't know. But sadly, if we had a competent GM, one that players were willing to meet with/talk to, maybe the GM would have been able to sense that we were nothing more than a pawn in this game. |

This is the thread that would pop up if for some reason the lakers decided they were not going to go for KL and took a Dlo or some other free agent.
After KL signs for the clippers.
Would Lakers have gotten KL if they only waited for KL? |

The Clippers only got Kawhi because they allowed themselves to be taken to the cleaners by Sam Presti for Paul George of all people. Not sure why you'd want to give Jerry West credit for that. |

I do. Not because West would've brought Kawhi here but because without him, the Clips don't get PG IMO. But that's obviously not a sure thing, counterfactuals are hard to answer |

KL chose his destination but the Clippers cleared the cap space, signed the ideal role players and acquired enough asset to land a second star player. If they failed to make any of that maybe KL would not have chosen them. They had a plan and they executed it smoothly. I don't know how much West's influences were but I guess West's sign off would give the Clippers lots of confidence on what they were doing.
In contrast to what we were doing; we gave up asset to create cap space then we gave up more asset because we decided to acquire the 2nd star via trade instead. Everything just seems very disorganised. |

This 80+ yr old man's legend continues to grow. KL didn't want to play with Bron and AD. He called KD, a dude with ruptured achilles, that's how much he didn't want the Lakers. Then he called PG13. But somehow if West was talking to him, he would then be okay? I don't buy that. |

Kawhi wanted to be a Laker but it was not his top option to be on a superteam. If we just had AD, I think Kawhi would be a Laker. It is what is is. He played the Lakers but we shall see how this plays out. Kawhi/PG have more injury concerns than LBJ/AD imo. |

A better question is would the Lakers have been bottom feeders for six consecutive freaking years if Jerry West had been with the team. And the answer to that is of course not. |
