1) Anthony Davis - is point AD possible? Does he stick with the Lakers past 2022?

2) DeMarcus Cousins - unlikely, but does he regain his All-NBA form the further he gets from his devestating achilles injury? And if he does, how quickly does he leave for more guaranteed money?

3) THT

4) The Lakers 2020, 2021, and 2023 1st round draft picks. Is there a future Tony Parker to be found?

5) Kyle Kuzma

6) Alex "The Pope" Caruso

Would love to add Christian Wood to the list. Norvell has potential to turn into a player also.

We need to hit on our next 2 1st round draft picks for sure.

Also will have cap to play with in 2021.

Well, at least it wasn't a "POLL"...

Given the way the NBA is structured these days, with stars having so many opt-outs and rookies taking longer to develop, I don't think you can project much beyond three years anymore.

In fact, not single player on the current team was here three years ago. And if someone predicted in 2017 that would be the case, I doubt many people would have believed him.

We got a short window. AD could very well leave if this season turns out to be a mess. However, even if we win, I don't think he'll wanna commit for too long. We gotta win NOW because we have a title-type roster now, one with old vets and journeymen and dudes on 1 year deals and superstar flakes (ahem) and they're gonna have to find picks a few years from now and draft well low. We're gonna have to start over with a new Yute movement without #2s and #7s and rinse, repeat. Try to sign another big name and go from there. And now we got Balls looking legitimate with the acquisition of Kawhy. That F tries to get into everything we do. We'll be in a future capspace plan for a specific FA star and Balls will try for the same star without a doubt. I hate that Kawhy?! went there.

one thing i've learned about this off season is all the planning can be thrown out of the window when players agree to play with each other on any team.

Bear in mind also that the team that the Pels have will get very expensive soon.

Favors is an expiring deal.
BI will be a RFA next summer.

Will the Pels be heavy spenders if they have cap space?

The future of the Lakers is heavily dependent on the health of Lebron
James.
If Lebron remains and healthy and Lakers contend AD will sign for the max.
With AD another superstar will want to come to the Lakers.

So the Lakers must take steps to ensure the health of Lebron. And the first thing is cutting his regular season minutes.
And one step to that is finding a defensive SF that can give him time to rest.

The team has too many small PGs that will get eaten up on defense.
Bradley was a must get and may also be the difference to the season.

Looking ahead more than a season now is one slippery proposition, more now than ever for clubs with top players under contract.

In the past year, I've seen a watershed change across the league in the power balance between clubs and the top players. Players have discovered that the rules against tampering don't apply to them. It's produced - so far - many clubs' inabilities (or lack of willingness) to force retention of top talent in the face of trade demands of their top players.

Seems a trend I expect to see increasingly strengthened until the next Bargaining Agreement is secured. The best players can act as essentially free agents every off season. They have proved they can force their way out of anywhere they don't want to be and clubs haven't developed a strategy to deal with that adequately except to comply.

That makes jawing about chances of the Laker club's future fortunes - especially looking more than a year away - kinda wasted breath. If indeed the Lakers hold contracts to two of the league's top ten players (the most likely and able to force their way out) , how do the Lakers assuage the desire of AD or LJ to move on, for example, to avoid the way Paul George moved on with so little notice and such recently contracted agreement. It's a new world. Every year is its own thing, more than ever.

I've started thinking that the Lakers can't avoid those problems, can't build a club that will stick together long at all. They're not alone in this regard, but we fans have to accept the perception the top player talent levels can pretty much force their way out whenever they please.

Need to get a young perimeter threat at some point, LBJ will have opt out and re-sign to a better contract.

I know it's Los Angeles but which superstar wanted to join AD on the Pelicans? These last few years, players dictate where they go and it doesn't matter what market it is anymore. Future of the Lakers could be very bleak, there are too many what if's

Right. All of those draft choices just means that the Pels will develop players that will leave once they become free agents.

Or trade for future assets. The pick swaps will be interesting.

Can see Josh Hart already being squeezed out when Ingram returns fully with how good Alexander-Walker look.
