This is definitely a good sign, Rubio has Improved his outside shot dramatically, this means there is a good chance he helps Rondo become a reliable shooter. |
Slow your roll man! He's a shooting coach, not a freakin' wizard. |
We don’t know which years he worked with Rubio.. do we? Or PG.. |

The highlight of my basketball career was when Mike Penberthy called me a good shooter lol
I think he'll do a great job as a shooting coach. I've seen him shoot first hand and the guy is lights out _________________ He's my GOAT |

Penberthy believes “90 percent” of shooting is mental rather than physical, meaning practically anyone can learn to become a good shooter if he has a solid foundation and is willing to put in the work.
“It has to be an obsession. You’ve got to hate missing. You’ve got to be obsessed with it,” he said. “I was obsessed with the sound of the swish. That’s what I wanted to hear. I wouldn’t leave the gym until I made 10 swishes in a row. I couldn’t stand hitting the rim, not just missing. It becomes an obsession.
“I always say, ‘I create addicts.’ My guys are addicted to swishes. They just want to hear that thing snap. I hate gyms where the nets are long because it doesn’t make that snap. It’s more of a whooshing sound, which drives me nuts. I want that (net) to pop. I want to hear that sound.”

Love me some Mikey-P. Still have his jersey T-shirt (cost me like 30 bucks to customize back in the day). Hell of a shooter, hopefully he can impart some of his technique on our kids.
Though, from watching his YouTube interview, dude put ON a few pounds... |

If I recall correctly, Chick Hearn one time proclaimed Penberthy to be the greatest shooter he had ever seen. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Here's a classic picture perfect MP3 jump shot. Looks a little weird, but my eyes are not accustomed to such perfection:

Mike had a handle of the old style, didn't shoot the three real well in this league due to foot speed and technique, but certainly had good-if-now-outdated 1990's technique of a dribble-takeaway-jumper. How's he going to help whom here ? |
Penberthy shot close to 40% 3pt on 3+ attempts his rookie year. If you read this thread you would see Penberthys credentials and who he has worked with and which years. He seems to have a good track record with Ricky Rubio being his best transformation. I'll take this hiring over not having a shooting coach at all like the last few years with Luke. |

rubio still shoots bad though, only had one ok season of 35%. So if we are basing it off rubio then we are in for some trouble. |

Penberthy was with the Pels last year. I don't know how much of it is his merit, but Randle shot 34.4% in 2.7 attempts per game from 3pt. That's quite solid for a guy that couldn't shoot from 3 (he was 22.2% in 2017-18). _________________ .... |

Penberthy is a great story, hope he can help our shooters out. Bring along Shaq as his enforcer, when someone questions "his authority." _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |
