Carmelo's defense is so non-existent, he can't cover his own mouth when he coughs.
Carmelo of 5 years ago is one thing, when he was still getting 24-25 pts, pulling down 7-8 boards a game, and hitting 35-40% of his 3s. That kind of production covers a lot of ills.
But NOW? We already may have to slow down the game some to maximize the size and strength of AD and Cousins, and preserve LBJ for the playoffs. That kind of measured pace only works when you have guys who can and will defend effectively - and Carmelo is NOT that guy.
Hard no. This guy will provide nothing that we need. What is he going to help with, inefficient scoring? We have plenty of scorers and guys that can shoot 3.
I don't see him going to the clippers. Lakers are more realistic, to be honest and I wouldn't be mad at it if he played his role.
What role do you envision? I'm not seeing it.
He is a PF that sees himself as a starter but can not deliver anymore. So already a questionable roster chemistry issue and not enough mpg at his position.
He doesn't defend, doesn't rebound or set picks. He only shoots 33% from 3pt and does not pass the ball.
Last season. 29mpg/13pt/5.4 reb/ 0.5 asst/ only 68% FTs. And such a distraction HOU benched him after just 10 games.
There is no role for this clown on the Lakers. Can we finally just say NO!

Then on top of that he just did an interview where he acted like he had absolutely no idea why they did it basically trying to get everyone to feel sorry for him.. He then even mentioned how it was incredibly hard for him to accept coming off the bench and his extreme sacrifice of doing that was not enough and they blindsided him with no warning .. He still has absolutely no clue and after seeing that interview I have zero confidence he will "play his role" and not cause drama at some point in the season. I do not understand how anyone could possibly think it's a good idea for him to be on our currently constructed roster. What he is awful at is what we mostly need and what he could still possibly be good at we already have plenty of....
This (bleep) again? You gotta be kidding me. (bleep) no to Carmelo Anthony on this team.
Who is it that relishes in regurgitating this story every few weeks?
This forum used to constantly have the same threads about Gilbert Arenas and Tracy McGrady when they were completely washed up. None of those guys did much when they were over the hill.

Carmelo was one of the most overrated players of his generation even in his prime. Now? No thanks. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Melo is a huge net negative. Im praying a team like the Clippers sign him and he sabotages their season.

These!
I kinda feel bad for Melo because he's clearly a better player than so many others in the league... but we can't risk our shot at a title to ensure he gets his shot at one. I feel like the best place for him to get a title shot would be Brooklyn. While Durant is out, Kyrie is the only star player that isn't part of a tandem/duo right now and the Nets have a shot at reaching the ECF. The Heat or the Blazers might also be teams that have a place for his talents.
He did seem that he has figured out that he is a bench player in the NBA right now, something he was not willing to accept a year ago.
I have never liked his game, but talent is talent. If the talent is willing to adjust, and be a player that will do what the team and coach wants, I do not see him harming us or any team. It is not like in his past situations where he is a max investment. Not like a player the team could not cut or waive. Not like he is someone the team is relying on to win a championship. In OKC and HOU Melo was seen an integral scoring option that would help them beat the Warriors. They were expecting a lot of him. I do not think any team that signed him (especially us) would have that expectation.
If he is willing to take DNP-CDs. If he is willing to have to prove himself as a capable 3 point shooter and a net positive to the 2nd unit. If he is willing to do that, I would not be upset if the Lakers gave him a shot as the 15th man on the team. Look, he would have to prove he is worth having in the rotation. This would be no more than T-Mac on the Spurs in 2014 if Melo could not break the rotation. It is not a move I would pursue, but if the Lakers did I would not be upset. So you try a few things with him in preseason. You see what he can do as a go to option with a 2nd unit. What he can do as a 3 point shooter. Give him 6 minutes at a time. If he shows nothing, you leave him as a throw in for a trade deadline deal or an option to be cut if you want to sign another player down the road. If he shows he can still give you something, that is just more talent added to an already supremely talented group.

Hard pass for me.. We already got more then enough offensive fire power.. If anything we need more defense.. We already have 4 guys who can legitimately get 30+ on any given night without anyone being surprised. Kuzma is pretty much playing the only role I could envision Melo playing for this team.
On top of all that this Locker Room is already going to have A LOT of ego to keep happy and in check. I think we'll be fine in the current state but i'd rather not add the new woe is me Melo. Funny how this comes out right after playing victim to Stephen A. Smith. Let him do his farewell tour anywhere else but here.
Agreed. At Melo's age, what does he even do better than Kuz at this point? _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."
