First time I have heard someone calling Anthony Davis soft... |
You should hang out with smarter people. Tell us why AD doesn’t want to play center. |
Because he can take his man off the dribble from 15 ft out
Because he still has some good guard skills
Because he feels he can hit the 3 whenever he wants |

Not really. He would have to play closer to the basket. |

unleasHell wrote: | Hey, all this talk about AD not wanting to play center made me wonder a couple of things:
Does he simply NOT want to be called a Center or a 5?
Or does he not want to be matched-up against guys bigger and heavier than he is?
I think its all about match-ups and who AD is being matched-up against..
So if the opposing teams Center is smaller (Shorter - Lighter) than AD, will he be ok playing against him? |
It was addressed at his presser when he made the comment. It's because of how taxing it is on his body to bang against the big bodied C's. AD is more of a finesse big than a physically bruising one. So no, I don't think it will still apply when it comes to a team playing a smaller lineup.
Also, I don't think that makes him soft at all. Not all bigs are the same. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. And people who would be happy in heaven if Christ were not there, will not be there."

I wonder how AD is feeling about the Howard signing?
If Howard can be that wide body to play against the big-body centers, then Davis probably doesn't have to play center much at all. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

I would expect Jav/Dwight to split 40 minutes of center minutes most of the time.
AD will close games at center.
It's why some guys don't want to play an "up" position full time. They realize that there is some utility in having the bigger bodied player take the pounding of starting centers and then when they close, they will close in for the kill. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Yeah, it makes good sense to have a good perimeter center and free throw shooter the last 6-8 minutes of the game in the lineup. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

Any star player on the Lakers get this much flack before the start of the season? I wonder what LG would have been like during the Tragic Johnson time period. Glad the internet was invented by Al Gore yet (And calm down, I'm not comparing Magic to AD in G.O.A.T status). |

Sounds good to me. |
This make sense, a good closing lineup seems to be
Lebron, AD, Kuz, Bradley, Green
Everyone of these guys can hit the 3 (assuming Kuz gets his 3 ball back) so this will keep the floor spread to allow Lebron an open lane to the basket or run some Pick and Roll with AD. Defensively this is pretty good, although Kuz maybe a liability. Lets hope he has approved his defense through.
On note, however, I wonder if for some teams they may use Dwight to close lanes against guys like Joe Embiid. Although I don't know how AD has done guarding Embiid? |

Also AD could play 4-5 minutes at "center" to close each half too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

It’s funny how guys like KG, Dirk and Duncan for years didn’t want to play “center” and that was just fine with folks. But when AD says the same he’s soft. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No one with an opinion worth listening to, on this matter at least.
AD isn't soft, neither were KG, Duncan nor Dirk. We should be happy that a player of ours, one who we've invested a lot into (with all we gave up in draft picks), is sensible enough to know his strengths/weaknesses as well as what could be damaging to him in the long-term... and is smart enough to ask for what he wants... which will prolong a hopefully long and successful career with us. VLF is just being the good natured (bleep)-stirrer he usually is and is trying to throw shade on AD to see if he can get a rise out of anyone, regardless of whether it is directed at AD or gets re-directed at the FO for making the transfer... typical damned-if-we-do and damned-if-we-don't scenario that he tries to create.

It means, if anyone thought KG, Duncan, Dirk were soft when they were active players... those opinions were worthless and not worth listening to. |

Tim Duncan was a center. He just didn't want to be labeled as a center so he could do things like start in All Star games and make 1st Team All NBA which he otherwise wouldn't have had a chance in hell to do because he wasn't better than Shaq. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

Laker fans called Duncan soft for years. It isn’t an insult, it is just a term for how some choose to play. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |
