Lakers’ Lebron might be the worst defensive player on that list

Ya gotta go with Wilt at 3 as the best value. He had a 20/20 season his first year here.

Best balance of any team, I think.
Aggressive wings on defense. Perfect pairing of Center and Power Forward. Big shot making off of kick outs with both Fish and Coop. And then to top it off, the Greatest 1-2 punch in the history of the NBA, hands down. Money

I wonder if we’re allowed to do this, and then pick Lakers that are not on the list. For example, if you pick a guy like Odom, Ariza, Artest or Dwight (lol), they are worth zero points and you can use them to complete your roster.

Modern-Current NBA:

Magic 5
Lebron 3
Scott 1
Cooper 1
Kobe 5

Kobe and Coop could interchange defensively, Kobe in his prime can defend point guards and won't be carrying that team anyway so he can exert himself on D. Magic and Lebron can defend most modern day 5s and 4s easily. Zones are now allowed. Scott is a 3nD guy. I'd have all these guys practice their 3 point shots, and not use their 3 point shooting %s from their eras as reference, instead with the modern NBA I'd understand they would adapt as they had the speed and skill to make the adaptation.

It all depends what era. If we were to challenge Steph Curry, Durant and those Warriors in these rules. This is the type of team I'd want. Again all depends on the era and rules. Modern/Current. I'd want Magic, Lebron, Scott, Coop and Kobe as my starting 5.

Yeah, how about Slava at the 4 and Luke at SF

Yeah, hard for anyone to claim you’re cheating if you want to add those guys to your lineup.

But no Kwame Brown?

The single best defensive unit, maybe, in Laker history.

And the scoring is obvious.

3 Pau
5 LeBron
1 Wilkes
1 Byron
5 Magic

There's many intriguing combos, but the ground rules about officiating (what decade's rules would be applied) push the solution around way too much. It turns into a risk assessment game if we're talking about trying to assemble for competitiveness rather creation of an honor roll more than anything else.

So, take dribblin; gotta have a hodgepodge of dribblers, for example from the old days and the new. Jerry West for example was a masterful dribbler for his era, and Magic for his as well, but neither guy's ballhandling would be top level competitive in the rule set of the other other's time, let alone today. So my team would have someone functionally excellent in each slkill not matter what rules would be used.

I think I have to agree with this one.

Just to be original I could also go with

Kobe 5
Cooper 1
Lebron 3
Wilkes 1
Kareem 5

The chemistry is through the roof here as well. Except for cooper, all of the players have already won championships playing with each other under the same system. You get kobe+shaq dominance but also kobe+pau dominance. Also you have kobe+Fisher as the winningest duo in lakers history, top 5 all time in playoffs and regular season wins too. The pau shaq possibility leaves me drooling.

Magic and LeBron’s skill sets are just too redundant, it seems to me.
Now switch out LeBron for Worthy and that team is set

I'd like to see this group:

Kareem
Mychal
Wilkes
West
Magic
6th Man: Kobe

It's a small-ish team, but all four non-centers shoot from distance well, pass well, defend great, possess terrific speed and hands, and the feeding order of the crew is without dispute. Kobe's a super-sub: can replace anyone and the rest of the order shifts around him perfectly; he's not my starter because it's unclear to me he can work without the ball as well as Wilkes and West, who deferred to others and got theirs every night.

Coop and Byron were nice players but not at all as complete or as seamless a fit as Jamaal.

I was almost ready to put Horry out there rather than Mychal, but gotta have someone could could play center in a pinch. Pau's a center, not room for two on any floor with Cap so regrets there.

Worthy and Elgin have had their games reduced by game evolution. James can't shoot outside 12 feet and can barely dribble normally. Elgin was a defensive liability too many times at key moments.
