Sight for sore eyes.

We just need a balance where those that shoot the most FTs are good FT shooters. So mostly likely we need AD and Lebron to hit at a good clip. I have faith in AD. Lebron, not so much.

I've never understood why LeBron is so bad at free throws when he's a guy who clearly puts in a lot of work. Pretty good three point shooter too, and he's even developed a decent midrange.

There's going to be some of the same, but also different whipping boys to blame this season. Your center and sf free throw % will be lower than many other teams.

Thanks J-Ming !!! I was surprised Jared Dudley wasn't better at FT's. Year after year those averages go up and down. Hopefully he can be more consistent here, we'll see.

As for LeBron, last season was the lowest he's shot at Ft's maybe time for some
glasses; LOL...

Again thanks.

He only shot 46 of them. And hit 32.
Played in only 59 games. So only 0.8 attempts a game.
Missing 14 throughout the year, at only 46 attempts will kill the %.

For Lebron, is his form off? Mostly arms and not enough legs?

Last year was Lebron's career low. We were losing after his injury, he had outside interests that took away from his game. Don't think he felt he really had a chance at a ring, motivation was slightly lowered.

This year will be different, he has a chance to go all the way, something he did NOT have last year.

Bet his FT% goes up to his at least his career average which is nearly 74%.

brilliant post.
not lbj, thats for sure.

AD stated he is trying to get his avg up to 85%.

lbj should make a deliberate effort to not try to average more than 20ppg, and thus keep his ft attempts to a minimum. he should NOT be the playmaker bringing the ball up. he should be on the elbow.

Well, next year we should be able to squeeze in some more games because we have better free throw shooting.

I only care about the players with the highest FTr and PT being good FT shooters.

Expect teams to foul us late in the game and send us to the FT line. lebron has never been a really good FT shooter, which is why most think he doesn't want to take late game shots and prefers to pass. Rondo is bad, Dwite is bad. It is what it is.

Replacing Boogie with Dwight immediately plummeted their potential percentage. But between he, LeBron, and Rondo, it will still be frustrating to watch at times. I'm also surprised Dudley's percentage is that low. Perhaps MP will be able to help guys tweak some things in their form and it makes a difference. I'd take 75% from LeBron and run with it.

Almost nothing drives me more crazy than poor free throw shooting at the NBA level. I'd like to see players donate 1% of their salary for every FT percentage point below 70%. Heck, make them donate it to the Trump re-election campaign.

I don't worry so much amount guys either way shooting less than 100 free throws a year, especially if they are cheap contracts or bottom of the roster players. But if you are a big money or big minutes player, you gotta be able to shoot.

Heck, I'd like to see 70% free throw shooting be a requirement for early-entry players in the draft. Can't shoot 70% in college first two years? Then stay in college and fix it!

Even Kareem was a 75% FT shooter. You're right, it's pretty pathetic tbh. To me it shows laziness and lack of practicing.

He has an awful set shot. When he's moving he can hit those threes and mid range jumpers but when he's set? Brick.

its very simple. its not really a mentality problem, in a sense.
he does not practice free throws. he probably practices them marginally, a few here and there. But in order to shoot 80+% as an nba player, you need to really practice free throws, like a full on training regiment, get those shots up, work with a guy and fine tune everything. lbj most likely doesnt do that. its very clear. what does he work on obsessively? his muscles. he works hard to make sure his muscles look big, etc. he spends hours on this, there is no other way. some of those hours would be better spent on fts...its a give or take essentially. you dont see a lot of big muscled dudes shooting high percentage free throws for this reason.

sounds to me a lot of people think ft% is the result of some physical gift or talent. not really. its just practice. if someone is not making them, they are very very likely not practicing.

also...regarding his "improvement" that CC is saying is the result of hard work..not really. if you only look at the stats, it might look ok. but what he really does is be careful about shot selection. he wont shoot difficult or contested shots, thus his percentage can go up without actually becoming a better shooter. ive followed him throughout, he hasnt improved all that much. he is just selective. its obvious during those playoff crunch time games where he has no choice but to foist up the shots, and his % goes down fast...and then everyone starts saying how he has no help. so he puts in work sure....but probably more along the lines of weightlifting than getting better at shooting.

Isn’t it harder to make moving threes than set ones?
