Hello LG Fam,
As we grind through the doldrums of an offseason that can't seem to go any slower, wanted to share a brief encounter I had with Jesse Buss. He was very friendly and polite. We chatted for about 5 min.
I didn't pepper him with too many questions... although I had hundreds crashing around in my head! But here is an overview of what we chatted about. His answers would have made a politician proud. Probably wouldn't have bothered posting if the offseason wasn't so damn boring! I know you guys are probably as starved for news and content as I am!:
- First off, I thanked him for his incredible work scouting out prospects for the draft. That gave him a big smile. It appeared to be a source of pride for him. Wish I asked more about how THT was looking, but I didn't.
- He said he really likes our team, and feels with AD and Bron, we will be right in the thick of things. He did say he views about three or four other teams that will be big challenges. He thinks the league is wide open.
- I asked about Iggy: He said he has no idea what will happen with his buy out. It seemed sincere. He literally said "even I don't know what's going on." But he quickly pivoted back to even without Iggy, he really thinks our roster is strong and can handle things. From how he stated it, he made it sound like even without another defensive minded 3 we will be fine.
- I asked what he thought about the coaching staff. Didn't get super negative... although in my head, I was yelling: why the hell are you guys so into Kidd??!?! Don't you think he could undermine Vogel???!! But I kept it vague. He said he likes our staff and that he feels divergent opinions will only make us stronger.
Then my little two-year old boy started pulling on my arm and that was that. I thanked him for the time and we departed.
He was very nice and it was cool to chat for a minute. The season can't get her soon enough!

Where did you run into him? You should have asked him whether he took Jeannie's or Jimbo's side in the conflict.
But thanks for sharing-- good to know the Iguodala thing is still up in the air. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I live in Brentwood. Saw him in the area on the street. I actually see him around semi-regularly, but never had a chance to say hello when it would be either rude or inconvenient... or super-stalky.

I think the fact that he still has a role with the team answers that question. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

Wasn't Jimbo the one who made him head of scouting?
No idea. What is known is that Jeanie fired Jimbo and forced Jimbo and Johnny to resign from the board. IIRC, Jesse took one of their spots as a board member. Had Jesse sided with Jimbo, Jeanie likely is the one that gets forced out. Jesse & Joey typically roll together, so if Jesse & Joey sided with Jimmy & Johnny, they would've had the votes to sell the team, per Jimbo and Johnny's wishes. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

Jim and Johnny are still full share owners with an equal vote as the other 5. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Correct, and had Joey/Jesse voted with Jimmy/Johnny, that would've been a 4-3 majority (or 4-2-1, not sure if Mrs. Buss' share comes with a vote).
If they could've gotten a 4-3 majority, reports were that Jimmy & Johnny wanted to sell the team and have a nice chunk of change to give/leave their kids. IIRC, once any of the siblings die, only a small portion of their share goes to their heirs and the biggest portion goes to the remaining siblings.
Not a great prospect for 60 year old Jim Buss when Jesse is 31 - guess which one is likely to be the last man standing? _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

The trust is last man standing. So joey and Jesse are better not selling (aside from both being involved which has its own appeal). Because they stand to get the whole thing. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
