Eh, it’s the rules. I think that technically they have already paid him, it’s his cap hold that we still have.

This would be the 4th years of the Mozgov/Deng deals.

Mozgov hasn't played an NBA game since 2017-18 and now plays in Russia.

Deng played 23 games in years 2 and 3 of the deal and is now retired.

I'll wait for the 30 for 30 on these Laker signings in a few years. Thanks, Mitch!

We've got some pretty quality FA signings this offseason. Sometimes, its how you use the capspace that you do have. In Rob we trust.

Thank you Jim Buss. The gift that keeps on giving.

Just saw D’Angelo on the cover of slam. The cost of signing Mozgov. It’s like the financial bailout. Yeah Ken Lewis bought countrywide for a steep price but it was the cost of unwinding that trade that really hurt.

this is probably incorrect
but did we actually lose cap space?
would his salary have been discounted from our cap hit?

the sh1tty part is that if they didnt buyout his contract, we would have never been able to sign lebron, or trade for davis.

We could have still signed LeBron, and he could have been included in the Davis trade as an expiring contract. It would have cost us KCP and Rondo for the last 2 years though.

Especially when it wasn’t necessary. But there was no way Magic would keep DLO.

Everyone forgets how mediocre Russell looked after his third year, the Nets didn't even try to extend him that offseason. He and Lonzo combined to miss nearly a whole season, and most of the missed games for both were in the middle to second half of the season.

Carrying DLo, Lonzo, and Clarkson as our 3-guard rotation in 2017-18 likely means another year in Cleveland for LeBron, while making it harder to trade JC due to his reduced role next to DLo (JC was the forgotten negative asset we were lucky to shed).

Finally, the $34 million in dead salary would make LeBron (or anyone) hesitate to join us, and even if the final two years of Mozgov are moved for Dwight Howard, Dwight's buyout is a bigger one-year cap hit.

And can anyone explain why the Pelicans would be eager to accept Deng's contract in the AD trade? Not without unloading Solomon Hill! Griffin liked not having to take back equal salary for AD.

True, Griffin said “you are going to give me what I want” and Pelinka said “OK”.

Griffin wanted Kuzma...
And the price for AD included an in-conference premium. Danny Green at $15.5M is a better fit for this team than Ingram/Ball are projected to be in the immediate future, and Ingram isn't worth going over the apron to keep.

I was compiling a list of least favorite Lakers over the past 20 years, and forgot all about Deng. He's on my list too...

Grant
Bynum
Fisher
Payton
Deng

quite an assortment - most were spoiled brats, one couldn't play defense.
