Anyone ever have trouble with the windows 10 search box and start menu not responding? I can't type anything into the search box. I can bring up the start menu after left clicking, but I can't type on the start menu to quickly go to programs. I've been looking online and trying some solutions, but still no fix. Any advice?

Ctrl + Alt + Del
Task manager
Kill explorer.exe
Your taskbar will probably disappear
Wait until it opens again after a few seconds
See if it works

Tried that already. No luck. Probably something with one of their updates. So random because I’ve never had this issue pop up

I think I'm going to try a clean install. Is there a difference between fresh start and reset this PC? It looks like I can keep personal files with both processes.

c:\windows\system32\ctfmon.exe will restore typing ability for your session. The issue comes back.

My work laptop does the same thing, so I created a shortcut on the desktop that I click when this happens.

So I tried that and I get this:

System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point. 0x800745b.

I have used system restore in the past with no problems, so that's new. I tried to restore in safe mode and still get the same error message, but slightly different code. So odd. I did virus scans and nothing. No other issues other than the start menu/search bar, and well I guess now system restore doesn't work.
