One game and it seems like the sky is falling at LA LA land already. I was hoping to see a thread where we can provide feed back about move and changes you like to see in the game. NO FIRE the coach or TRADE this player or he SUCKS. No GM moves, just adjustment using the current Laker roster to perform at its peak as constructed as of now.

Game 1 LAL-LAC

I am fine for 3Q, way we competed, but we seem to run out of steam and made some careless TO in the 4th that did us in.

Adjustments

- Did not like LBJ bringing the ball up specially if he is being defended by a player like Beverly. If Bev is on LBJ, somebody else could bring the ball up and do some side action to get the ball back to LBJ. LBJ will be more effective looking towards the basket so he can survey the field.
- If Bradley can't handle bringing the ball up, I like to see Caruso or Cook as starter.
- Offense is too stagnant, Bev picking LBJ screwed with our pick and roll, LBJ thinking he has the advantage already halted our movement.
-We miss a playmaker like Rondo or Caruso (not sure why he did not play) in the second unit and a stretch 4 like Kuz to provide extra punch and length.
- Mcgee needed to play more, we need his activity.

If LBJ is guarded by a great defending guard.

my lineup would be LBJ, Green, Caruso or Cook, AD, Mcgee

I don't like LBJ bringing the ball up either, as much as I hate to say it the team may have been better with Rondo as the PG.

You have that much confidence in Norvell against legit NBA players?

Not against the likes of Beverley. That's a rude awakening.

Other dudes? Yes.

Rotations
PNR
Less AD @ the 5. ( Due to Howard being in foul trouble)

Our defense look phenomenal in the first half, Lebron went uncharacteristically passive in the 4th, lots of unforced errrors, KCP was useless on offense but played good defense. We are missing our 3rd scoring option in Kuz..

From what I saw we just threw away a very winnable game. McGee should have been in longer also.

Considering Kuzma is out. If we get Rondo back.

Try to

-run a few more pick and rolls or pick and pops with Lebron and the bigs.
-set up the offense a bit earlier in the shot clock.
-AD isolations should be featured more when Lebron is resting, Rondo in.
-once bench rotations come into play, try to have the second unit commit to defense effort wise the same way the 1st unit is.

Lebron should not be bringing the ball up the court vs. an opposing PG. What a ridiculous waste of his talent and effort.

Other than Danny Greene, the lack of off ball movement was discouraging.

The telegraph force feed pass to AD leading to several turnovers was frusterating. I know LBJ said the offense is going to go through AD but it's gotta be part of a natural offensive scheme.

We played horrible after their bench started outplaying our starters at the end of the first half. What was encouraging is that we were in the game despite some of our hired snipers not shooting well from three (except for DG).

Someone at the game will need to fill me in on this...But J Kidd seems to not be talking. Must be waiting for his time to shine. I would expect an old savvy HoF PG to be in the ear of ALL our guards including LBJ every timeout. Especially in the first game of the season. Just an observation.

Good thread.

Constructive takeaways:

Need a secondary playmaker as others have mentioned with the starters. Lebron for 82 games cant be playing on ball the entire time. Would like to see cook take Bradley's place. Not that Bradley played poorly, but I think the starters will eventually need a bit more offensive versatility from a playmaking standpoint. Id even give caruso a try.

Kawhi struggled when AD was switched onto defending him.

Hope to see Vogel making more adjustments in game and consider matchups going forward. Eg: bradley more on lou will, Ad on Kawhi. However i understand its game 1 of the season, and making specific game plans vs specific teams is unrealistic. Probably more concerned with sticking to the general season gameplan vs planning against one specific team.

Norvell won't be asked to try and create against beverly, he is out there to spread the floor and run in transition. and add some half court penetration off the kick outs.

Can't soft hedge all game long against guys like Lou and Kawhi. They'll eat that pick and roll coverage alive. Better off switching, at least some of the time. Can't be that rigid when it comes to defending top tier players. Have to mix it up.

Rondo could've helped. Feel like Beverly would've been less effective defensively if we had a healthy Rajon.

We struggled to defend without fouling. Especially in the 2nd quarter. Will be keeping an eye on that as the season progresses.

Norvell doesn't get to pick and choose who his defender is.

Looking back at the game again.

There is a positive to take out of the game

- LBJ did not play well offensively, but played great defensively
- AD down low can be a load if he is aggressive
- Green fit perfectly for this team offensively & defensively
- We played without another ball handler (Rondo) in the second unit and still miss our top scorer in Kuz. (LAC bench killed us)
- Daniel and Cook missed some open look
- We had a horrible 2nd qtr, but still we battled back and break even going to the 4th, where we choked

Someone needs to tell AD he's not an outside shooter; don't take a single 3. We need an aggressive guard who can dribble penetrate to play with the 2nd unit; when Lebron and AD both sit, we're relying on Dudley and Cook to run plays. Norvell or Caruso needs to be the 2ndary playmakers. Cook is a great shooter but he's less effective when he's asked to run plays.

Finally, we need a spark off the bench. It's too bad we let Cacok go because he hustles and brings energy to the team; we saw that with Harrell and Harkless on the Clipps. Hopefully, Kuz can be that spark.

Our bench will be great with rondo, Kuzma and Howard so I’m not worried about that. I think we def need to see the :

Bradley
Green
Lebron
Kuzma
AD

Lineup to close the game.

I feel this unit should play together for at least 12 minutes a game. Maybe sub Kuzma in early for Javale and end the first and 3rd with that lineup and then close out the games as well.

Agree

We need to see if Green, Kuz, LBJ, AD and who ever the 5th guy is going to work. Its our best offensive lineup. That lineup working can make this team go far. As far as the fifth guy, Avery is in if can bring the ball up to help LBJ, else I like to see Cook or Caruso. Iffy on Rondo, cause he is a hesitant shooter, like Rondo more on the second unit.

I did not say he will get to pick his defender. I said he will be out there spacing the floor not dribbling which is beverlys strength. If Beverlys defense is going to be wasted on our worst player. I'll take that.

you dont need much handlers when the paint is wide open. But if you got AD + Mcgee then yeah you need kyrie irving to be able to penetrate

KCP played good defense? Was that before or after Kawhi scored a bunch straight on him with EASE?

The team won't get far without another competent ball-handler and another wing defender.
