I must say that even though we are winning the Lakers have looked a bit shaky against some teams we should be beating more handily. Im hoping its just a matter of us playing down to the competition.
It's nice to see the offense come around.
But I don't like the defense slipping.
defense is not really always in the team's control. if you believe officiating is fair and consistent, that's one thing. BUt i dont see it that way, it's craziness to me. so, like yesterday, they can call all sorts of crazy things and take a defense out of it. our defense is good, probably one of the best in the league. so depending on the refs, the result will come and go. also, i find that most people who criticize the defense also have no idea HOW the team is playing defense. like, can you describe to me with words what our defense strategy is and what individual players are doing? no way, no idea. (not you, just in general)
First 11 games (with Bradley) : 99.5
Last 5 games (without Bradley) : 109.5
There are other factors (we added Rondo who is a really poor defender) but it seems like we miss a lot Avery on defense
OFF RTG :
First 11 games (with Bradley) : 108.5
Last 5 games (without Bradley) : 115.1
I'm very curious to see how we'll play when he comes back, I personnaly hope that we can limit Rondo's time on the floor when Bradley comes back...
Just play Rondo 15 minutes when Bron is on the bench, play him with another strong defensive guard (Bradley, Caruso or Green) but don't play Rondo with Daniels or Cook...

We can agree to disagree.
It's true that refs can affect the way you defend to a point. But I won't discard the importance of effort and scheme.
Simple things anyone can see in terms of effort:
* Getting back on defense (paying attention to opponents leaking out)
* Rotating on defense
* Ball pressure
* Contesting shots on jump shots and at the rim
* Defending throughout the shot clock
* Communication (never want to see that confused look when 2 guys leave the ball handler on a screen)
* Boxing out
Schemes:
I'm not going to pretend like I know all their schemes. But you can see little things like how they're playing the pick and roll. Great video by LFR on Vogel explaining PNR concept.

At least we're beating the teams we're supposed to.
Wow 11 opponents under .500 so far? Have the other teams on top of the standings faced as many bad teams as we have? _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

According to ESPN's Strength of Schedule, 10 teams had easier schedules than us
Thanks. Went over to ESPN to look at that. So it seems like the Clippers, Bucks, and Nuggets have had relatively tough schedules, yet are still near the top of the standings. Impressive. Hopefully, we respond well to tougher opponents next month.

Another thing you need to Account for is the number of home and away games. I think in the NBA the home team wins about 58 to 60 percent of the time so the home team advantage is significant.
Clippers have only played 5 away games I believe and 12 home games and yet to beat an elite team outside of their home Court. If they beat Mavs tonight it will be first time.
Lakers have had about half away and half home game defeating the Mavs and Suns on the road.
The bucks now I believe they had mostly road games and are 14-3 so that’s quite impressive.

Thanks for that info. It's good that we've been great on the road so far. However, I haven't put too much stock into our 15-2 start, since:
1. Our schedule has been pretty easy so far.
2. We've had some close calls against these weak teams.
3. We've needed Lebron to put up MVP numbers to beat some of these weak teams.
Hopefully, we continue to do well when we face more of the elite teams coming up. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

The Lakers test will come soon. Mavs, Jazz, Nuggets. They should be able to win 2 of those at least. Anything less we have to question their championship potential.

You don’t put much stock into a 15-2 start?
I’m not usually mr pom poms but this is kind of silly. You should put a lot of stock in a 15-2 start, with some caveats for the reasons you mention.
We are now 5th in O rating and 2nd in D rating. Elite at both sides of the ball, currently in ranking vs the league.
We do not play at the elite pace, or should we with the age and size of this team. We are 20th in pace. Which means we won't put up 120+ each night. But interesting that this team has an elite offense rating as well.
We all kinda saw the D coming with Vogel as HC, Hollins as an assistant and with AD's talents. But the O to be this good, when AD and Lebron have not yet peaked as a PnR tandem, not have we really seen the right mix of Rondo, Kuzma and a 2nd unit off the bench .... It's nice to have this.
Some tough games in Dec, and I expect some things to change, but we are definitely a 2-way team, which is huge in the league right now. We are the most balanced team in the league. Paint play, size and bigs. 3 point shooting. Elite guard play with Lebron. Elite bigman play with AD. Defense on the perimeter. Defense inside. The only area where we will struggle is when teams use their extremely athletic 2nd unit to run on us, such as we saw with the Raptors. We have to be careful to not try and play a high pace game against teams who have those kinds of athleticism and shooting. If we play to our strengths, and have a healthy AD and Lebron, I think this team is the best team in the league for sure. Not just balance wise but even in talent. We have all the parts you need to win a ring. It will come a lot down to luck and management - to be peaking in the playoffs.

You have to consider there are also a lot of bad/average teams in the NBA. The East has about 6 teams that are above .500 The West has about 7. So that's 16 teams which are .500 or worse teams. Now that the Lakers are a powerhouse and contender, those teams look like easy matchups. A year ago many of those same teams were tougher because we were a .500 level type of team. Two years, we weren't even competitive. Even a 4/6 winning percentage against teams like Utah, Dallas, Toronto, Clippers (Those are all 65% or better type of win teams) means we'll end up playing 65%winning ball against the best teams in the NBA. That is very good. Go back even to the Shaq-Kobe Lakers, they were not winning more than that against the best teams. You will rarely see teams who dominate start to finish in the RS.
Also lets see if the Lakers have learned from losses. First loss against LAC, they learned some things. Played better halcourt defense. Second loss against Raptors, they learned some things, played better transition D. I think with losses this Laker team is also showing they will learn from them. We have really cut down on transition points against us (fastbreaks) since the Raps loss. That's a sign of a well coached team that understands why it loses. Our offense has evolved big time since the Raptors and Clippers losses. Less isolations, more depth to the offensive sets and multiple options.
Christmas game if we are healthy, I look forward to the Clippers game. I think we will show we're a lot better than opening night on both ends of the floor.
Yet there a reasons to doubt since they are barely bad some bad teams
But I think teams can sometimes play to the level of their opponent. The Lakers were perfectly capable of beating these teams bad..but knowing that, sometimes they don't bring their A game while the other team does.
Great Teams have been known for this..the Kobe Bryant Lakers were legendary for this..playing bad against bad teams than turning it on when needed.

yup, it's gonna be a playoff preview on xmas, both us and clips (can't believe their city edition jersey is cholo-like... fudgin fiyah... ugh) both have improved since opening day. I anticipate slug fest, Pat Bev vs AB intensity, Harrell vs Howard battle of muscle and motor, LeBron vs Kawhi/Palmdale and AD going bonkers... Lakers win
