Don’t know about the numbers, but the Lakers may have found something with the Zone defense.

They looked pretty effective and of significance it looked like it bothered Dallas, a good offense with plenty of shooting.

Just another area of strength. Obviously they have to clean up on the boards when they do play zone.

It's a nice change of pace.

Frank has used it coming out of time outs with great success. Other team draws up a play for man to man...Frank's like, uhhh, let's go zone for a hot minute.

I liked the Vogel hiring...and I'm happy to say I really underestimated him...he's such a calming influence and a great defensive mind with some offensive ability.

And what I like most is that he's in no rush to show the league everything he thinks we can do and be.

Yeah one of the things I think they don’t want to really show is the Lebron/AD PnR.

Imo coming out of the Xmas day game, it looks like they realized they needed to play with more pace to make it easier on themselves. They haven’t gone stagnant as much except for the Suns game and they are putting up a lot more points lately.

Our defensive rebounding stats don't look good at all. Take a peek:

Against .500 or better teams this season:

Lakers: 12-7
Nuggets: 9-5
Clippers: 10-8
Rockets: 8-7

The rest of the West has losing records against these teams this year.

We are
4th in O rating
3rd in D rating
2nd in net rating

Only Bucks are better.

Gotta figure out a way to get AD to be a target player in the offense. The way the role players are playing now off Lebron, we need them to play like that off Lebron and AD. Big part of taking that next step.

More impressive 8 wins have been on the road (with 2 wins against the Mavs, one against the Heat, Rockets, Jazz, Nuggets..truly elite teams

for the East

Bucks 10-5
Miami 11-6

So Miami closest to the Lakers in wins.

Everyone else losing records also except Pacers 8-8

Also Bucks are 28-1 with 29 games against sub 500 teams, one of the most in the league I believe. N So it is still a good possibility the Lakers can catch the bucks in record because the Bucks still have to play a lot of games against teams with Winning records

I think the Lakers have the most road wins against above .500 teams also?

Not a stat, but one thing that’s become noticeable in trends is how often teams are going to zone defense.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, the Lakers , after losing Howard & McGee are rebounding better? And, we're ranked better defensively so far? And, we're better offensively? And, we're better 3pt shooting...by miles?

It really looks like we're better. Just sayin'. Thanks for posting.

There is 0% chance the Lakers could have sustained what they were doing last season. They needed the offensive infusion.

Nothing is guaranteed, but this roster overall is miles better than last season from overall talent standpoint.

Our SoS is 27th. Our team numbers ought to be pretty good right now. And they are. The only teams we have played that are currently in playoff spots are the Clippers and the Blazers. This is not a bad thing at all. Given that we had only a minimal preseason, a soft early schedule is a plus.

Strength of schedule doesn't mean crap right now. Look at the league standings. Everything is backwards. You play who you play. However, for similar reasons, these rankings also mean nothing. Lets see where we are 20-30 games in.

If the league called fouls on our players accurately, fans of other teams would stop watching the NBA because we would smash every team.

Wow! Thanks, especially the comparison w last year. I could see we're shooting better treys.. and these numbers do validate it. I however had no idea we were doing better in defensive ratings and rebounds.

I do wish these stats also included FTs, an area that has been the Lakers shortcoming for DECADES!
