Quote:
The NBA legend and his 13-year-old daughter have been laid to rest, E! News can confirm. The private Los Angeles funeral comes just two weeks after the pair—along with passengers Christina Mauser, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and pilot Ara Zobayan—tragically passed away in a helicopter crash. At the time of the incident, the group were headed for a basketball tournament at Kobe's Mamba Sport Academy.

Though the ceremony was held privately, a public memorial will be held on February 24 at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, giving fans an opportunity to pay their respects. "We are one city that believes in each other, believes in something bigger than ourselves," Mayor Eric Garcetti has said. "We will absolutely do everything to make sure that this is done so that everybody can come to it as well."

Ugh, just too sad to put into words but here I go.

Kobe - I have loved you for so long...20 years of my life man. I spent more then half my life following you. I grew up with you. You're only 5 years my elder, but I never viewed it through the lens of age with you. You transcended all that for me. It wasn't even about your abilities. The way you made me feel whenever you did something spectacular. That smile radiated through my TV screen, or anytime I saw you on a magazine, or if I was lucky enough to pull a Kobe card out of a pack of Upper Deck or Fleer. You meant the world to me because you were an image of happiness in my life. That despite the raining and pouring of life throughout the various stages of aging, you were always there. That's why that number doesn't matter to me. Whether I was a 13 year old kid, 21 year old adult, 28 year old man, or 35 year old family man. That happiness never waned. I will always, always, always love you for that feeling you made me feel. Forever Kobe.

Gianna - I recently started following you more and more. For the last year and a a half, you've been showing the world that the almighty Kobe Bryant didn't need a son to carry on his legacy! You had that in your back pocket all along. With your long wingspan and natural God given ability, you had all the makings of a superstar athlete. The future of the WNBA. The future of women's sports. A bright light for kids worldwide to look up to and emulate. Just as I was once a kid looking up to Kobe, I was ecstatic to know that you took that mantle and were carrying it with pride. Knowing that the new generation of youth had a role model in you Gigi, to now follow in the footsteps of. You were taken too soon, and I will never fully understand why. But I know this, you are, and always will be, Mambacita, the greatest female 13 year old basketball player I have ever laid my eyes on.

God bless both of these beautiful souls.

This is too well said, makes me want to cry again.

And I am a grown ass 35 years old man.

Wish this whole thing never happened. But regardless we must celebrate their time here to move forward.

I can see them both just enjoying themselves and playing the game they love up in the sky, and reuniting with their love ones in a timeless dimension where everything that is going to happen happened.

At all. I see all the stories, I have the newspaper, SportsNet is showing the Backstage Lakers episode of the Portland / tribute game which I was there in attendance but I STILL cannot get my brain around the fact that this really happened.

The cemetery is beautiful and gated in which no one can enter unless let in.

Reading that still feels unreal. I keep thinking to myself I wasn’t supposed to see that headline till I grew old.

Feels wrong to read that. Only 41 and 13 years old, man.

Rest at the end, not the middle. Unfortunately the end was too soon for all 9 of them. Miss you Kob and Gigi
