Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard suffered a right groin strain (grade 1-2) and is unlikely to participate in Sunday night’s All-Star Game, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Dame is out....so does that mean Caruso is in? Haha

Btw, if its more severe (grade 2), then Portland is in real trouble to get that 8th spot now.

Scott Gleeson wrote:
Chris Paul recalls All-Star games with Kobe Bryant: ‘Not real he’s gone’

CHICAGO — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul has fond memories of playing in NBA All-Star games with Kobe Bryant.

“We didn’t really lose when we were together,” Paul told USA TODAY Sports.

Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were among nine killed in a helicopter accident Jan. 26, leaving the basketball community and sports world mourning for the past two weeks. Bryant will be remembered throughout All-Star weekend in Chicago.

Paul was a regular teammate of Bryant on Western Conference All-Star teams and won two Olympic gold medals (2008 and 2012) with Bryant.

“It’s crazy. It’s not real until somebody asks me about it,” said Paul, who considered Bryant a close friend, rival and mentor since entering the league in 2005. “I just stay busy. Try not to think about it, keep going. Yeah, it’s not that real that he’s gone. I just keep on moving.”

Paul is returning to his first All-Star weekend since 2016 — Bryant’s final season and last All-Star appearance — and said he remembers he and Bryant being similar in that they didn't treat the exhibition game as a vacation from the regular season.

“We were out there to compete. We just approached the game differently,” said Paul, who was helping launch Players Media Group, a sports start-up media entertainment company, on Friday downtown. “I don’t go out there to just play around. I can’t do that. He couldn’t either. Serious competitors.”

Paul, who has played for his entire career in the Western Conference — on New Orleans, the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and now the Thunder — teamed up with Bryant seven times from 2008-2016. Outside of two All-Star games when Bryant was injured in New Orleans (2014) and Dallas (2010) when both were injured, the duo went 6-1, with Paul’s alley-oops to Bryant making highlight reels each time. Paul’s lone loss with Bryant came in 2008 — their first time on an All-Star roster together.

“We lost one game when we played together,” Paul said. “That’s it.”

Bryant was complimentary of Paul throughout his career. In a 2016 interview about a 2011 trade that was blocked by the NBA that would have sent Paul to team with Bryant on the Lakers, Bryant said: “Things would’ve been very, very, very different around here ...with two of the most competitive people the league has ever seen.”

What could have been the greatest backcourt in league history. Chris was destined to wear the purple and gold, not traded from team to team like chopped liver. One of my favorite players of all time. I watched Chris since he was in highschool, when he scored 70 in memory of his grandfather, college, when he made a six foot nothing shooting guard Justin Gray and a six foot eight center Eric Williams look like legit pro prospects, the pros, when he revived the careers of Peja Stojakovic and Tyson Chandler, while making the career of David West, etc. Chris and Kobe should have hung multiple banners together this decade. They were unbeatable, on Team USA and in the All-Star game. That veto just killed the Lakers.

I'm watching the celebrity game (don't judge).

But I always wondered why they include WNBA players. Shouldn't this game be beneath them? Especially how much of a joke the game is supposed to be?

Current WNBA players? Too lazy to lookup who the players are.

It's probably retired WNBA players. I don't know why that didn't even cross my mind. My mistake.

I remember it wasn't pretty, and maybe that's why they haven't brought it back... but I'd like to see legends again. It be fun to see Shaq, Duncan, T-Mac, see what they can still do. Just don't reach way back and get real grandpas. Keep them below 50 yrs old.

This. They should limit it to players that retired the last 10 years.
It would be funny AF

Yeah it ended up being a reasonably fun game in the third and most of the fourth. The end where it turned into a bad dunk contest was

Anyway Saturday night is usually my fave part of the weekend so I’m looking forward. Hope Dwight goes retro 2008 Dwight

Sucks that there are no Lakers in the skills or 3pt contest.

There are guys who can hit some threes and then there are three point shooters. It’s just sad what Devin did to those folks in the first round. (And I’m gonna assume Trae Young was nervous ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
