I like this. I can’t say why though. Just like Ryan West, I’m not sure how good Cassell really is.

The biggest question is who's on his staff. Thibs? Shaw?

Maybe Mike Brown could get Gentry for his o- coordinator. They'll both have the Warriors connection. Sam Cassell is also an interesting idea. I'd rather go with an unknown that has the chance to be good than a lock for mediocrity.

With the names I've heard us attached to, it looks like we're aiming for trash.

It's much tougher for me. It seemed Kidd did a great job in Brooklyn and a not so good job in Milwaukee, but who knows? Maybe he can be Nate McMillan, a guy who got a second chance after being labeled outdated and incompetent, but became, it seems, a solid coach.

How do y'all assess coaching acumen? I think many of us are talking out of our assession when dogging these guys, to be frank.

one criteria is seeing how as soon as he left a team, they became better at literally everything

No. That just means that Budenholzer is much better. It doesn't mean that Kidd is bad.

Please explain in detail why Ty Lue would lock us to mediocrity? How many mediocre coaches won a championship, and against one of the GOAT teams down 3-1?

I don’t think there is any reason for the Lakers to rush there HC decision...

If we could get Alvin Gentry then we should wait... also if the Lakers play it right, we will have a nice list of HC options to hire.

They usually interview him instead of Doc and he seems to know his stuff. I am sure that some of the adjustments he talks about came from Doc but isn't that the best way to learn? It seems that what Doc says to him sticks.

This posts completely encapsulates the idea that it is very difficult for fans to gauge coaching talent, myself included.

Seems, more than any other aspect in basketball, to be an inside assessment.

Outside of the obvious good offense ans good defensive schemes that are wanted by everyone, these are my very general most wanted qualities in a new coach:

-- someone who can best help unlock Ball and Ingram
-- someone who encourages lots of shooting (ie. like Bud, D'Antoni, and Stevens)
-- someone who can effectively communicate and garner respect from James

When Frank Vogel was hired, everyone knew he was brought in here for only his defense and not his offense, and it shows when the Lakers struggle in offense when they're not playing LeBron-ball.

But how about Jason Kidd, was he brought in for offense or what?

I assumed the Rambii hired him to recruit Giannis. He and Kidd had a strong relationship.

It becomes increasingly clear (and increasingly funny) that he is only here because he oversold his relationship with Giannis and probably even promised he could get him here. And we believed him. Jason Kidd.

We hired him and a 2nd "defensive-minded" coach instead of someone with a concept of 21st century offense.

You can count on JKidd as gone. He'll be a good coach somewhere. Hopefully not Portland because he will use everything he knows on how to beat us.

Well seems like the perfect spot for Kidd. He has to feel comfortable going back to Dallas, reuniting with Cuban and coaching Luka.

Also, restart the potential trade offers with Dallas. I read that Schro was a big fan of JKidd.

Luka will respect him IMO. There were reports circulating about Luka and Carlisle butting heads.

The Mavericks are progressing in talks to make Jason Kidd the franchise’s new head coach, sources told @wojespn and me. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is also close to hiring a new head of basketball operations, who has signed off on the Kidd candidacy.
